While I do admit that I wish my 50 acted more like an 85 than a 75, I find the range usable. And the Bokeh is just amazing for a $85 lens, or even a lens several hundreds of dollars more. I've heard good things about the sigma too, but it's going to be a while before I can compliment all my zooms with $400 primes like the sigma 30/1.4

Meh.. 50mm on a crop cam isn't the most usable focal length (around 80mm). The aperture is nice, though, I use mine a lot at concerts, but otherwise I prefer my 17-50/2.8.

The Sigma 30/1.4 is nice, though, and on a crop cam (which is the only cam it'll fit on, unfortunately) makes a neat ~48mm, which is close to the 50mm that used to be standard back in the day.

To all you Nikon people out there with a kit lens wondering what to get next: Get a 50mm f/1.8. It's $85 or so on Amazon and I use it more often than my two $800 zooms put together. Learn to zoom with your feet, and reap the benefits of a 1.8 aperture. It's perfect for portraits and also great for anything indoors (basketball, concerts, etc.)

I got the D80 for Christmas, and I've been trying to get as much use out of it as possible. Magnificent camera, though. I've got a kit lens, and am debating what kind to get next. Still deciding... but man, I've sure gotten a lot of requests since I got it though.

I just bought myself a new camera, Nikon D80, and a 16-85mm lens. I cant wait to get some more use out of it. I have a few friends who want to do some photo shoots, among other things of my own. THis is MY first DSLR, but i love it.

Cant wait to see what you do with yours.

Really? Well, whoever's eye it is, it looks amazing. Again, congrats on the new lens. It takes a real sharp photo.
