it’s been a while since i’ve commented here, and saddly since i’ve read AG with my computer being dead and all so this wasa happy find, along with all the other reviews i’ve seen whilst perusing the blog history.

So, a month late, but that’s alright, i hope. I enjoyed Perfume. I had to read it back in 11th grade for IB English. It was so much fun to read because of the potential for darkness and horror in the story. The entire concept was disturbing, but everyone in my IB class and the other class[es] that had to read it were gripped by the story. We’d never been assigned such an out there story so this was s fun read. I remember hearing that when the movie came out the majority of the viewers one night were IB English students who all wanted to see if the movie measured up to the book in any form.

The book is a lot weirder than the movie but easier to understand. Since the whole book is about smells thats really hard to show in a movie. Plus in the book Grenouille is a cold, fugly psycho, in the movie he seems way to harmless.
Can’t say anything about the english versions though, seen and read both in german.

Also, look into “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”. Another absolutely amazing book that rocked my world the first time i read it.

Perfume is one of my favorite novels (and I’ve got a collection big enough that it warrents its own room in my house). Honestly, you should see the movie. They did a bit of embellishing, but unfortunatly, with American movie audiances, this is somewhat a neccessity. It did the book a fair amount of justice though, and included *the* scene.

I’ve now read Densha Otoko and seen the movie and watched perfume. I found both very interesting and I wouldn’t have found either if you hadn’t reviewed them, thanks. I need to get the book for perfume sometime, I’d like to see how it differs from the movie.
