Also makes me want some Pepsi. Wonder if they still make blue…..

Yep, the normal Canadian version is caffeine free as there used to be some sort of law that clear/light colored pop couldn’t contain any caffeine. They’ve finally allowed the US version with caffeine into Canada 1-2 years ago and called it (ug, I had to look it up, sorry) Dew Fuel. Stupid me thought it was something like Dew Extreme which is an equally stupid name.

Comment by Bex
2008-02-28 15:47:48

And upon further research the caffeine version is no longer sold in Canada. Eh, I’m not much of pop drinker anymore so didn’t realize….

That would really be awesome, but I’d honestly still be happy running after these tricky bubbles, with or without them available as screensavers. Besides, I don’t think that Hawk was expecting this simple project to become such a hit. Even if he’d actually start to think to make a screensaver out of it, it would definitely take some time.

Can I please suggest an idea for the huge what-IF screensaver? It would be cool that the orbs/bubbles move away from were the mouse stands just like in the original project (though visible or not) and that you return to normal mode by pressing the esc button rather than classically moving the mouse/arrow, otherwise the chase-the-orbs with your mouse effect could be lost.

Screensaver or not, the bubbles are still cute. <3

Or maybe the opposite of what you said. Or something completely different. ;)

Hmm… Reflecting about this orb chase makes you wonder upon how just being God seems even more complicated than we may think it is. It definitely doesn’t look to be an easy task. I mean- look at all those bubbles! How can you keep up at looking at every single one of them? Every bubble looks the same, even if they’re different bubbles at the same time. That alone may prove to be confusing. The mouse could represent coincidences, a revolution, a new idea, foreign attitudes and just some of many things that people usually shy away from, especially the thick-headed ones-

Ok, I’m running too deep here. It must be lack of tea.

On a lighter note; bubbles!

A few people are saying this reminds them of the game flow, but I must say this is truly creative and beautiful Hawk. You probably hear this more than you can count but I am more amazed by whatever you make. Many people can make a pretty picture, but some things are just flat out impressively creative. I have seen some things made by ActionScript but I really like this. I mean this is all sincerity that you are my favorite artist.

Fun to putz around with. The reaction motion feels a bit too computerized, though. Usually, I put in functions with a logrithmic or exponential rise/decay so they move with a more natural feel of “resistance” that people expect. Constant or linear rise/decay of velocity doesn’t usually mesh well with natural feel.

Ironic, I know, but I liked this a lot, so I made a screen saver for Windows:

It was more a way to do some interesting directx graphics programming techniques for me, so it’s not entirely faithful to the original. I think it came out nice though.

Sorry for those not running Windows – I really just don’t have time to do this in another language – maybe someone can get the flash file built into a screen saver sometime.

I must have spent about 30 seconds on the thing before finding something else to do.
