Jamie at AngryZenMaster switches to a PC …kinda. Jamie is a very good friend of mine, so I’m not going to kick his ass.

Haha! Your brother is an accomplice! HAHA!
Well, Macintosh and PC is more similar than ever. Plus it’s cheaper with buying a PC in parts than a MAC, but damn, if I had the cash, I would probably buy booth. One for work/web-browsing and the PC for games (ofc you can play games on the MAC.. yadiyadi…)
Nice case Angry Zen. I love my mac for video editing, and i find apple still hasnt screwed that up, and there is alot of great software thats available for me. But have you thought of making your new PC into a Hackintosh ? i recently built a pc using the same cpu your using. and I’m turning it into my cheap Mac Pro. check out project x86 on tips on how to make mac work on your sick pc. (if you want to)
I’m with mike on the ‘well-made case’. It’s getting kind of rare these days to find solid, logic-based arguments online. Angry Zen Master’s reasoning was lucid, rational, and easy to understand.
I had a punchline to this comment, but it got lost.
“It’s the one that turns the friggin’ thing on“.
I laughed horrendously when I heard this and remembered my own PC assembly problems.
Good times ever since though.
…
*braces for the onslaught*
At least he has a good reason to for getting a PC. There really isn’t very many options for 3D software for the Mac platform, that’s the reason I’m dual booting on my MBP.
Well, Hawk for ever loss there can be a win. I was going to email this letter to you but after reading about your friend I decided to post it. I have been reading Applegeeks since before Eve. I am the evil Dr.Webbwerx, Rave Promoter, tech writer, robogirls created, professional partier. and avid Mac hater. I use to write a column called the Mac hater. I almost bought the DNS for Machaters.com. I have bashed Apple since I was betrayed by my color dual dock in 1994.
I was once in the final stages of an interview at MicroSoft when the interviewer decided to ask me what I thought Mac had done right… I should have known it was a trap, no M$ person would have asked “what do you think Apple has done right?” they would have asked something like “Do you like Macs?” Either way what I said next will truly demonstrate my hate. “Well, I think Apple has done a great job making cute Macs for sissy’s who don’t mind second rate hardware and taking in the ass for price.” The look he gave me should have been a clue, I needed to shut up, I was not in a safe place it was obvious he was one of the Mac clones… I was going to die, but before he killed me he had to be sure. So he gathered himself and asked with an tone of absoluteness worth of a supreme court judge at a capital crimes sentencing “So what do you think of Steve Jobs.” I squirmed I had to hold my tongue or die, the job was nearly 45 and hour and I had waited all my life and been through countless interviews to get to this moment. I bucked up and convinced myself not to say anything stupid, unfortuanitly my mouth did not get the memo, “I think Steve Jobs is a Nazi.” is all that would come out. The interview ended and he left with a Mac notebook case.
A few weeks ago my PC started to die. Mind you I have never had a virus my entire life, and all of my PC’s were custom built with only the best since 1990. Each one a handcrafted master piece that lasted at least five years before I would give in and build a new one. This is why I was not to big on Mac, my PC’s, were better looking, faster, had more to them, and were always tops! A Mac was an over priced Del. However OSX always kept me interested in checking in on Apple’s progress. Recently I wrote a bunch of tech documentation on the iphone and spent a lot of time on Macs. I evaluated my use, I don’t play games, I don’t do graphic, I use google docs, wiki pedia, myspace, Nwtekno, and I play movies. That was it. So something small and cheap. A friend as a joke suggested looking at a Mac Mini and I punched him square in the nose, he bled. He finally whimpered, “Well you like Applegeeks, and you think Eve is cool and she is a Mac.” I went home, and I decided to see why my friend risked bodily harm to suggest a mac to me the Mac HATER.
The Mac Mini. It was love at first site. It was cute, it had all the right parts, great shape, and everything a man could want. It was perfect. But it was still a Mac. So I aw the “chat” button on the apple store site. And I decided the best way to talk myself out of it was to slam a Mac Genius. I came with notes. Could it be used on my 42″ plasma? Does it have heat issues? Does it work with google docs? Is it a real Intel or is it another lie like Apple has used in the past? I asked about every accesory, every cable every adapter. It was four grueling hours. And he was on his game, until he said “Well you can use boot camp and use Windows if you want…”
I couldn’t believe it, how dare he be a Mac genius, if I wanted Vista I would get a Del it was $200 cheaper. I replied, “HAVE SOME PRIDE MAN, I AM GOING THROUGH SOME BIG CHANGES I NEED YOU TO GAIN SOME BALLS WITH ME!” So for another hours I questioned the OSX. In the end I had ever part number you could imagine and the store location along with the stack manifest for the store. I drove there and handed the genius the document and stated, “I am here for this please prepare all of it and bring it to me in a bag, thank you. ” The geek did it like I was a diplomat from PC Nation. When I was leaving the store he suggested as a convert I should write a testimonial and email it to Mac. Below is what I sent:
“Buying a Mac Mini was one of the most difficult decisions of my life. I was embarrassed and scared; but after being a devoted Mac hater for fifteen years I had fallen in love. It felt like I had decided to interracially date and it was 1962… I couldn’t tell my friends for fear they would beat me to death and burn an Apple effigy on my front lawn.”
– Travis Webb MacHater for 15 years.
We still have our issues and don’t always get along, but I usually let her win. Like right now, the reason this is not edited is I can’t find the right-click. I can see the words are spelled wrong but there is nothing I can do…. Be that as it may, we are a happy couple.
Right click = ctrl+click
or buy a two button mouse
Nice story btw
HOLY CRAP THANK YOU! I am not even joking. I feel like a jack ass. I do love this nice metal keyboard. Just this mouse… I was so frustrated.
You sir are a page hugger. that being you took most of the dam page which probably took alot of your dam time.
If you got into your system preferences under mouse/keyboard you can set your might mouse to have a right click or ctrl+click or if you have a macbook you can set it your touch pad to recognize you have 2 fingers on it then click the button and it will right click.
I do find it a trifle amusing when as a Mac lover I am moving back to PC as I’ve had enough of terrible Apple build quality. Seriously, 2 Macbooks in 18 months, 6 keyboard surrounds, a hard disk (with all my pictures of Tokyo <- feel free to laugh at the fool who didn’t back up), a back light inverter, two screen surrounds, two power supply fires.
Then, Mac have the idiocy not to notify developers of the changes to WebKit affecting the widget platform and their recommended working on 10.5.
Go download news widgets on 10.5, the links mostly don’t work as JS onClicks on divs are disabled – still it’s fine on the latest version of 10.4.
Oh, and as for Apple service, “the store manager will call you back”, I’m going to call him in 40 mins when the store opens as it’s been 2 weeks since I asked him to get back to me.
Anyway, good luck with your Mac, it’ll be interesting to know how you fair.
It’s getting exchanged today. It died already. I took me hours to convince support I was not an idiot an it really was not working. They just kept saying that “Mac’s don’t crash” and I kept saying “Well mine did, and yes they do, in fact I no longer allow mac to be used by dj’s on stage because they crash, once with Dj Keoki. It just happens” and they would basically act like I was hater and I had mistreated the poor thing and wouldn’t help me. It was one of the worse experience I have ever had. Then they threaten to charge me 14% for the exchange, and I said “but its broken and won’t work..” and they were like “well Macs don’t crash, and if it works for us you will be charged the restock fee” I finally had to give in and I am taking it back. It just keeps crashing.
I really want to love it. I don’t plan to work it hard or even install anything. I have lots of PC’s at work I can use for work stuff. I just wanted it to browse the internet and watch movies. But even trying to turn up the volume cause it to freeze.
I had to use a PC to submit my Mac feedback form from the Apple store because Safari nor firefox could load the page script properly. It almost feels like Steve Jobs did all this as revenge for me calling him a Nazi.
I am pretty sure after they replace it I might be happy again. I really am excited. sorta.. still.
Haha.
You should see the Apple Developer T’s & C’s. I can’t say that Steve Jobs is a Nazi, but it reads like a Nazi party manifesto. As a developer you aren’t allowed to say anything, and I mean ANYTHING bad about Apple.
I got bumped fromt he widget downloads pages because I said I’d written a workaround for an Apple bug.
Cretins.
Web browser wise, get Camino, I don’t use FF or Safari. Especially a Flash player and Safari cause lots of app locking and crashing.
It’d be interesting to know what problems you’re having and where the OS is crashing.
just to update. It never worked, it always crashed, I begged them to allow me to excahnge it for weeks, they refused and Apple was straight rude about it. I reformatted it, I resinstalled stuff, it never worked. I pleaded with Apple from the first day I got it for almost three months, and they kept saying it was something I had done. I never got to use it, so it sat and I finally let it go to someone who seemed to be Mac crazy who could not get it to work and parted it out.
Total waste. I bought an HP, it was cheaper, had more power and has never froze or crashed. I would tell you all more about the horrific treatment I recieved but it seems unbelievable an I just don’t feel like typing it out.
I was actually laughing when he displayed the Seagate harddrive. And I knew right away when he said he had troubles what it was. Seagate+MostChipsets=Doesn’t work without a jumper on the drive. Not the first time I’ve seen it. But considering he’s a novice it sounds like he did excellent on his own.
I applaud his hardware and smart choice of XP Pro. Whooo PCs! Sorry Hawk <3
Man I have XP pro and I’m sick of all the blue :(
Change it to Silver then. >.> XP has more than one skin you know.
But no on the accounts section.
And windows blinds crashed my computer cause its a couple years old. Besides I’m buying a mac soon anyways.
Or use something like Windowsblinds.
I have a Seagate. Everyone was telling me they’re pretty good. My last was a Samsung, which lasted 3 years. Worst harddrives are Maxtor.
You know, the issues with software not being current has nothing to do with the Os itself. It’s just because of the delinquent desire of accountants to maximize profitability by only developing for one platform.
I know this is completely unrelated, but happy birthday, Hawk!!!
thanks! =)
Happy Birthday! Enjoy the rare weekend-birthday!
Happy Birthday Hawk!
Ha! I’m a week older than you!

ok, i laughed quite a bit at that video. i think it’s only because i build PCs all the time. Did he ever figure out what overclocking was?
“F*K Vista”
That was so true. XP forever!
-And, err, MACs too of course. :P
