What the hell man. It’s currently 69 degrees, 74 degrees later today….in Washington D.C… in FEBRUARY!?!

Mother nature is on crack.

Don’t get me wrong, the weather is nice! But where the hell is winter?!

in case if you hadn’t noticed, ‘mother nature’ has been on crack for the past couple of years. However, despite the oddities, I for one refuse to complain about the possibility of a major severe thunderstorm later today. There’re even tornado warnings in the south for this system! ^_^

Amen.

Oklahoma is known for strong and “variable” weather, but this is ridiculous. Every day, for the last 2 weeks, we’ve had strong winds - 30-40 with gusts of up to 50 MPH. These winds switch from North to South to North - every day, it’s from a different direction.

Not only that, but it’s been very very dry - both in terms of lack of rain in 2008 and extremely low humidity. The temperatures have also been crazy. First it was in the 30s, then it warmed into the 50s. Then a cold front dropped us into the 20s. Last Thursday? 1″ of Snow here, and up to 7″ near the Kansas border - and a foot in MO/IL. Then we warmed up - it was 80 degrees on monday! Then a cold front came though, and we had a few thunderstorms, followed by 30 degrees on Tuesday.

The winds, lack of humidity, and often warm temperatures, combined with dead trees from the terrible ice storm last December and huge amounts of dry grass left from the cool, wet summer of 2007 means that the fire danger is ridiculously high - we’ve had wildfires everywhere. Oh, and the Cedar pollen is nuts.

So, I must agree with the “nature on crack” view, but hey - it could be worse… We were fortunate enough to be west of yesterday’s tornado outbreak. Sheesh, 70+ tornados, on Feb 5th? Potential EF-4 (or higher) damage? That’s very odd… I’m not going to complain about the cold or wind - at least I have a warm apartment to live in…

I’m sure someone’s already said it, but where’s winter? It moved to Atlantic Canada.

Within the past month we’ve had:
- Freezing rain
- Ice storms
- Total snowfall of almost 7 feet (no, that’s NOT a typo) with a LOT more snow on the way before May
- Lowest temperature so far this winter was -25c (-13 degrees fahrenheit)
- 4 major blizzards within 1 month (no, I’m not talking about the type DQ make)
- Repeated cycles of blizzard, freezing rain, ice melt, blizzard, freezing rain, ice melt, blizzard…

Anyway, you get the idea. Most people around here feel like jumping in front of a bus right about now. :-/
