Marvel Studios has released a new Iron Man photo for the upcoming movie. I can’t wait!

I’m so glad there wasn’t any huge redesign to his suit.

Also, perfect casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. I’m pumped about this one.

The suit design is cool, but why does he look more like plastic man than IRON man?
It just doesn’t look like it’s made out of metal.

I completely agree. That’s the first thing I thought when I saw that pic.

it’s the paint job it’d have to say maybe a different finish to it would make it more real looking

I’d have to agree. Also it looks like he’s CGI’d into the backdrop there. As though that is not a “practical” suit. If so… that worries me a bit. CGI hasn’t come that far yet to have it be the lead part in what is otherwise a live action movie.

Also. He’s looks…. I don’t know…. thin… like there’s no actual technology in the suit it’s just “metal” on his body. The suit is supposed to be bigger than Stark by at least a bit.

To sum everything up. I have a few problems, but I’m not making a final decision until I actually see the movie. I’m just skeptical.

Not necessarily true; the entire time he’s been working on it, Iron Man’s been working to make the suit as small as possible; twice in its history in the comics he’s been able to fit it into a suitcase, and that’s what he always works towards. Currently, because of his Extremis injection, he keeps the ‘underarmor,’ which interfaces between him and the suit, in his body, which allows the armor to be significantly smaller.

It looks like someone took a promo pic of one of the toys, actually…

Well, the main thing is that the suit was never supposed to be iron. The original suit Stark made to escape from, location depending on the reality in question, said captors. The suit he constructed later was instead made to be worn as an under suit or to be carried in a briefcase. So, the construct is really a mixture of force fields and the millions of units that make up the basic shield. The force field permeates the units and strengthens them with also the units contributing power. The main point of the force field power source and the ability to regulate it, however, need to be interfaced di8rectly to the nervous system to create a better on/off switch. The switch is just my opinion though.

Ummm…coming from someone with very little superhero background, I’ve always thought the previews for it looked silly. Now, I love the Spiderman movies (except the third one, but we can ignore that), and I was even pretty excited for the Superman movie (though I didn’t like it once I saw it), but this… I’m very skeptical. Of course, I know NOTHING about Iron Man.

(waves hand in Jedi-like gesture)

Spidey 3 didn’t exist… :P

Anyway, well you’ve got an alcoholic millionaire playboy played by an actor with a history of substance abuse (Robert Downey Jr.), for starters. Add talented supporting (and Academy Award nominated) actors Terrance Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jeff Bridges to the mix, and I think Marvel would have to actively try and run this movie into the ground to miss the mark on this one.

For reference see Spiderman 3, Fantastic Four 3, Incredible Hulk movie…

I love Iron Man, and the preliminary pictures look good, but Marvel has a horrible record for this sort of thing. Hopefully, this will be better!

You’re right. The suit does look nice, but I’m withholding judgement given some of Marvel’s other attempts on the big screen. The Punisher? Daredevil? (for that matter, Elektra) The Hulk?

well the suit looks pretty unreal but i guess that will change when it is on tape ^^
it really sucks if they chance something in the design or the script which destroys the hole original story or even the purpose for something (Iron man not paralysed = no need to build the suit in the first place or something like that)

Iron Man isn’t paralyzed until way later in the story when a treatment he goes through causes his nervous system to deteriorate. Thats when he builds the remote controlled armour.

Yeah. It looks like they based Fury off the Ultimate universe. Still at least it’s not David Hasslehoff

Given that Marvel constantly redesigns the Iron Man armour (or that Stark does), I don’t know if there’s a case to be made about being beefed by a Holywood redesign.

Both suits follow the main aspects shared by most of the suits in the comic, plus they do look cool.

Okay, overall, I like the suit…expect the mouth area. I don’t know why (I never really read the Iron Man comics) but there’s something…awkward there.

Its meant to resemble a skull like composition, i goes that could cause that awkwardness

Okay, I could see that. Actually, that makes it better…don’t know why, it just does. At least now I know they weren’t just lazy.

You know, I actually liked the new Extremis suit better. It was sleeker, and I think, better suited to Robert Downey Jr.’s style. This one looks more…regal, for lack of a better word.

Nice, looks like they didn’t deviate from the general (considering Iron Man and his constant upgrades and changes) design. I’m really hoping this will be at least as good as Spiderman 1.

that doesn’t look like a suit he could easily sit down in. but I suppose I’ve never seen iron man really sit down… except for maybe those meetings in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

I dunno. After seeing him in kiss kiss bang bang, he’s always gonna be a magician that steals shit.
Therefore, it will actually make me interested in iron man.
