I guess I should have mentioned this earlier, but I’m headed to India for the last two weeks of January. Don’t worry, I’m leaving Hawk scripts … but just a heads up to you guys so you don’t think I died or something! I’ll have plenty of stories and photos to share when I get back, so look forward to it!
For the curious, it’s my cousin’s wedding. My brother bought a Nikon D40, so I’m extra-excited about the photos we’re going to get.

grats to ur cuz! have fun!
where in india? you have fans some places!
My family is from Rajasthan, so that’s mostly where I’ll be - as to where exactly, I’ve sort of left the itinerary up to my folks. First family trip in a good number of years.
my family is from rajasthan (specifically jaipur) as well :)
have fun!
Haha, that’s coincidental. I just came back from India a couple days ago, albeit not for a wedding this time. Weddings are always fun there. Congrats to your cousin. :D
Yay! A trip to home is always so fun! Have a great time and congratulations and felicitations and all that to your cousin!!!
Hahaha, my home is actually here - I was born and raised in DC. XD Just visiting relatives.
just a small comment… Nikon rocks.
Congrats to your cousin. I hope you have good time there. :)
Let me make a small suggestion. If you are using the stock kit lens with that D40, its great for outside daytime shots. But if plan on shooting inside, a nice prime lens will take better shots sans flash. Don’t know if its ok to do lots of flash photography in the weddings, but some people don’t like a lot of flashes. Prime lens are fast enough to get good shots in low light.
Thanks a lot for the tip!
Seinfeld.. Don’t use the public washrooms xD
Have a good time with your family, going to India for a wedding is pretty sweet.
Hawk will probably pull a Dave Letterman by growing a beard and writing his own material. :)
Hey Ananth! My best wishes go out to you and your family, and may your brother have a happy marriage! I hope you have a great time in India, and yea.. Nikon is a great brand, I myself got a Coolpix l11 for Christmas
Ahaha, it’s not my brother, it’s my cousin, but thanks!
*slaps head* wow.. yea.. I dont kno why i typed brother… kinda woke up 10 minutes before.. but anyways, to your Cousin i wish a happy new marriage!
Thanks! And no worries! XD
Come to Mumbai if you have the time. You both have a great fan following here.
Jai Bharat! :D
Oooo, check out the TaTa Nano for us…I hear it’s the cheapest car in the world!
Hope you have fun, and congrats to your cousin.
Might I add I am extremely jealous of your brother? I want a Nikon D40, I’m saving for one.
I know you’ll have fun– but don’t forget to come home! You’re already sorely missed.
HAY SO WHAT’RE YOU GOING TO DO WHEN YOUR FAMILY ASKS WHEN YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED? YOU’RE ALREADY THIRTY-SOMETHING, RIGHT?
I THINK FORTY-FIVE MAYBE. I DON’T KNOW I WAS RAISED BY WOLVES.
FORTY FIVE… THOUSAND???
THAT’S A CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATE, COMING FROM YOU.
SO JUDGING BY INDIA’S STANDARDS YOU’RE EITHER ALREADY MARRIED OR GOING THERE TO JOIN THE WEDDING MARKET?
Will you drive one of those new Tata Nano cars that looks like they can be thrown with a catapault? :D
Someone else mentioned that too! I don’t know about them, but I guess I’ll see ‘em.
I don’t think it’s on sale yet. But where in India are you gonna be :)?
Bring a Tata Nan home. I hear they’re so small you can fit one in your pocket.(-_^) LOL. Cute car. XD
Haha, “Tata Nan”. Cheapest car in the world, straight from tandoor.
Oh sweet, congrats and stuff. Mn, and I just got a Nikon D40, it takes stellar photos. So awesomeness. -thumbies up-
Have fun at your cousin’s wedding!
Weddings are… weddings are exhausting in India.
ok, a few things. my mom went to india on a business trip. these are real things that my mom has seen, and warned people about
1) ride a camel (then try to steal it and have it spit at people…or is that an alpaka???)
2) WATCH OUT FOR THE MONKEYS!!!!! they are vishus!!! they steel your stuff and bite!
3) traffic is horrible, people drive in the other direction on the highway!!!!!!
4) there are cows wondering on the highway (dunno why) they are holly, so no one hits them
one more thing. kewl fact, they somehow fit an obsene amount of people on vehicles.
(true)ex: 5 people and a dog on a normal motorcycle.
(FYI: if his name wasn’t already a good indicator, Ananth’s entire family is from India. There’s probably a good chance he’s already been there. Maybe a few times.)
Every 2 years since I was born, more or less. XD
sorry, im kinda stupid, i guess i should have guessed that. im also quite gulible, theifing monkeys, danm im stupid, that does sound weird. note to self: dont trust everything mom says
^_^0000
BAH all of those are exaggerations. Camels are rare; as are theiving monkeys; the traffic is bad but thats because of bad roads and lots of cars, not bad drivers; and cows cross the roads before there can be a problem.
Please, don’t believe messed up rumours about India. Even if your mother has seen them, they’re rarities.
BTW: The Nano rocks. It’s only 1 lakh rupees = 100000 rupees = 2500 USD. All the same, it is one of the most advanced cars on the market… :D
Jai Bharat
On the news last night they were saying the Nano was introduced in India due to the low car:people ratio. I myself would not drive one, due to the size, i kinda like to have a lot of metal wrapped around me, not the plastics that the Tata Nano has holding it together…
There’s a lot of things to consider, one of which is that a car like the Tata Nano will work well in parts of India because the traffic is slow and packed. Having a small, maneuverable car is probably a big advantage, and in many parts of India you just don’t get the car up to the kind of speeds you do in Europe and the US. It’s just not necessary … at least, that’s been my experience.
What? They’re alla TRUE! Camels, check. Monkeys, check. Middle class indians in BMWs that can’t drive and should leave it to proper drivers, check. Cows on road, check. Five people and a dog on motorcycle, check!
If you do not see this on a daily basis in India you should get out more … :)
How old are you, jessica dear?
well, old enough that i should know better, yet maturaty and gulibility of an 8 year old
wow so much talk about a wee car…anywhosits. HAVE FUN, ENJOY YOURSELF. ^_^ and come home safe.
Dude, have fun in India. It’s a blast. We were last there in 2004 and I had a fantastic time hanging out in Mumbai. That place rocks! Dec / Jan are the best times to go as the weather is somewhat nice and bearable - especially up north.
So you’re not going to become a sky pirate?
That’s such a downer.
I can vouch for both the monkey and camel part, at least in Jaipur
OMG! ANANTH IS DEAD!!!! NO MORE APPLEGEEKS!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! lol j/k have fun man.
no sky pirate ? zomg :(
i allready was expecting some lightning in a can… or some nice “the cap’s a drag queen” stories… *sob*
