I would trade "reliability" for more storage anyday. I am still using an iPod mini, with its little microdisk, and I have never had a problem. The majority of iPods that have 30-80gig microdrives haven't had problems.

For a device that was created mainly to provide a large screen on a small device (and obviously intended for video playback based on the commercials) I think it should have more storage.

Which is why I love my Ipod classic with more than enough space for my ever-growing music library (40 gigs and growing). I'll wait on the touch until it actually has a decent amount of space.

The computer should take care of that. You do have all those songs in your computer as well right :) 160GB in sales speak mean ~147GB of storage(This includes capacity lost due to the formatting and OS). 1024 conversion ratio as opposed to the 1000 ratio(decimal) used in sales. 160000000000 bytes = 149.01161 gigabytes

Hard Drives Bad, Solid State Good...
Don't need a HDD on this device. The slim factor has more appeal than making it more robust ( THICK ) to protect a frail HDD. For storage get a Video. Why do people need to carry songs and video they'll never listen to or watch?

I got mine early - about 2 weeks before the official release date to see how I'd like it. I always used my 5th gen more for video than music, so I wanted the new screen and wireless. I have not been disappointed. The space isn't an issue - 16gb holds all the vids I need to watch and my pathetic few gb of music. The interface is beautiful and the battery kicks butt. The flash hard drive is amazing too. No skipping. It's super thin compared to the iPhone and lighter all around with room for updates from Apple. I highly recommend if an iPhone isn't something you need (I already had a phone and a plan with Verizon) and you like the video capability, go for it. It's very pretty. Beware of screen issues! If your screen tends to show darker images/scenes as a negative...you're not crazy. Take it back. The software update didn't fix mine and I wound up exchanging it.

Yeah, I maxed out my 80 gig pod, and just bought the 160 (which seems to only have 147 gig of actual music space). Now my problem is to move my music library to a larger drive.

I would like one, but the storage is too small. I wound up with a 160GB 'pod, which is finally large enough to hold all my CDs. Providentially, it came out just as I had filled my 80.
