Since the iPod Touch is finally out, did anyone get one yet? Do you like it?

Nooo, but I got an xbox 360. X3 I think Microsoft and Bungie just made a cool grand off me after I was done. >.>
They actually use Zune software to data transfer between PC and Xbox… More spicifically Windows PCs.
But I bet the iTouch is good though. I just don’t need anything like that.
Holy shit, in Australia it’s half a grand…
My office just ordered 7 of them (that’s right, 7!). 3 shipped early, and they are AMAZING. I live in the iPhoneless wasteland known as Canada, so the touch interface was totally new to me. Watching Youtube and surfing on an iPod is awesome, as is coverflow and all those other fancy things, and the typing is way easier than I expected. Unfortunately I dont get to keep any of them, so now I have to go buy one. I’m not sure if I hate or love my job…
I pre-orderd the iTouch a while back and I have to say it was well worth the money. It’s the first MP3 player I’ve owned in a while and I have to say when I started fiddling around with it that it was a pretty impressive experience. Everything flows so well and operation is incredibly simple. The battery life is also worth note because after trying out all the features for about 5-6 hours I had barely used a quarter of the battery. The display and is both vibrant and detailed and the resolution is excellent. The only draw back I’ve seen so far is the Calendar is unable to add events but given everything else works so well I think that I can live with usuing my regualr calendar. Hope this helped in some way and love the comic
i like my i-pod nano that i have. i might upgrade when things aint so expensive
I played with it in a store. It’s basically the iPhone minus the phone. Also, it doesn’t have a camera, which I thought was kinda weird. They should included a camera.
I think for now an iPhone is better in general than iPod touch. o.o
The iphone doesn’t have a digicam either.
Um, yes it does.
Have you actually played with the thing? >>;
I love it. I’m locked into a Verizon contract for a while so the iPhone wasn’t an option.
The touch is slick, it definitely has that “ooOOOoooOOOoo shiiiiiineeeey object” gravitational pull to it. (It has to, I mean it sucked $400 out of my wallet)
I like it, but I bought it fully aware that there were better music players out there if all I wanted was a music player. The touch inteface, while cool and pretty does not work through my pants. The 16 gig storage space is nothing compared to what the Classic can hold in nowadays.
I will admit having Safari is nice.
Do I regret my purchase? No
Is it the best Music Player out there? No
Is it the sexiest little thing that can fit in my pants without giving it an awkwardly shaped bulge that I will have to explain to my colleagues? Hoorah.
Got to be careful that when you think about it it doesn’t give you a bulge anyway.
I got mine over a week ago and love it. The interface is great, very easy to use and intuitive, and cruising the internet is pretty smooth. YouTube is a little less so, but still works great. The virtual keyboard was not at all hard to get used to, though maybe easier for me since I am used to using a laptop (12″ Powerbook) keyboard and sending SMSs on my phone.
In short, what is there works very well, but it could use some more software (disclaimer: I’m a software engineer), and some of the existing software, like the calendar, could use a few additional features. Many have complained of no data entry on the calendar, and I agree this should be possible. Hope Apple are planning an upgrade!
And the screen is still a bit small for viewing longer videos/movies, and it seems to be even less comfortable for people who use glasses.
For $400 you should get more than 16 Gigs of storage. You take out all the phone components of the iPhone, and all you can fit into the device is a lousy 8 more gigs?
The iPod Classic gives you 80Gigs for $249. For $400 you should at least expect 40 Gigs, I mean I know the fancy screen adds some money, but I don’t think it adds $150 per unit. The size of an 40 Gig micro harddrive of flashdrive is the same size as a 16 Gig microdrive/flashdrive soyou know cost it pretty much the only reason they ship the iPod touch with such a small amount of storage space (especially since they are encouraging people to watch movies on it).
I say wait till gen 2 or 3. The price might have dropped a bit, the technology will be more stable and they will come out with higher capaicty storage as well. (and maybe colored cases, instead of just black).
The size limitation is becasue it is a solid state device (maximum of 16 gigs), the older ipods are not they yse spinning platters. The touch is more reliable, but lower space. it is a tradeoff.
I would trade “reliability” for more storage anyday. I am still using an iPod mini, with its little microdisk, and I have never had a problem. The majority of iPods that have 30-80gig microdrives haven’t had problems.
For a device that was created mainly to provide a large screen on a small device (and obviously intended for video playback based on the commercials) I think it should have more storage.
I got the iPod touch before it came out (I love knowing people.) and I’m extremely happy with it. I got it to replace my 30GB Video, and I’m slowly realizing that they are two very different devices. A few complaints:
1. Lack of Calendar Entry. Duh.
2. Lack of case. Cause nobody makes them yet. meh.
This is a bigger problem than just “i don’t want to scratch the shiny-ness….” I’m using a $10 Wal-Mart universal case for it right now, but it’s not compatible with the headphone jack position, so i have to leave it halfway unzipped. irritating, but easily solved once Griffin comes out with their flip case.
3. Running programs on it is not exactly simple. At least as far as I can tell, cause they say you can and I haven’t figured it out yet. I was hoping to be able to hack some of the 3rd party iPhone games onto it, but no such luck as yet. Advice?
4. No games. And it’s such a pretty screen to play on, too.
5. No file downloads in Safari.
6. Biggest complaint: NO FLASH. (in safari.) Pisses me off. Anybody know of a way to get it on there? YouTube is not the only popular flash program out there.
about the Flash…
Adobe has released the new Flash Lite 3 software that now offers support to Adobe Flash Player compatible video and makes possible the delivery of dynamic Web content on mobile devices.
Would an iphone case maybe work? My touch is on order right now from the Apple store, and I know that there’s like a 3 or so mm difference in heigth ( I hope this is correct spelling, my brain can’t think right now for some reason). Because, according to est ship dates, my touch will be wanting a case in 13 or so days.
I think it’s a great Idea, but I just finally got my first mp3 player a week ago (sansa lite for 40$) and I can’t justify buying another one for that price. If it was cheaper, maybe. But to be honest, I don’t need all that much space. Has anyone maxed out an Ipod with more than 10gigs of space on it?
I maxed out my 30g video ipod quick. Bought it for the video playback.
16GB just isn’t enough for video playback on a touch.

I have a 25 GB Music collection, and another 30 GB of video content. There is quite a demand for the bigger-than-most-desktop-hard-drives storage capacity of the iPod Classic.
geeze i’m starting to think i have a problem. I have double your music collection on this computer and probably double that on my NAS… Though to be fair some of that is in .flac for editing purposes.
Well, is there REALLY a need to carry all your music with you everywhere? I got by just fine with a 2GB player, swapping out the old stuff for new stuff every couple of days when I needed to charge the thing.
I speak in past tense because the screen cracked and it’s now hardly usable.
Y’know, I used to think so, but I’ve figured out that of the tens of thousands of songs I have approximately, I only listen to maybe at most a 1000-2000 of them ever in any given year. That’s why I’ve decided for something like the 8 gb touch. That and my old 3rd gen 40 gig finally died on me. The wife was okay with me getting the 16, but I don’t think I would ever need that much space. Anytime I want to watch any movies or video, I have either a computer or big tv around, so no real need.
Which is why I love my Ipod classic with more than enough space for my ever-growing music library (40 gigs and growing). I’ll wait on the touch until it actually has a decent amount of space.
The iPod touch is awesome. Wish it would have a GPS in it since I can’t connect on the road and the iPhone makes a great GPS like device, so as ling as I get the directions beforehand I should be good without wasting paper :) The other cool thing is that is can be plugged into a car stereo and you can still use the other features. My city has wireless broadband as a monthly plan service and I’m considering joining just so I can be on whenever I’m around the city.
I got mine two weeks ago (some of the stores got very small shipments in), and I love it. I’m coming from a 15GB 3rd Generation iPod (the one with the light-up buttons), so it’s a huge leap forward. Safari is amazing - no bastardized mobile web pages, it renders the real thing perfectly. Coverflow is a fantastic way to browse music - and it goes faster on the Touch than on my Macbook Pro!
I’m not even disappointed by the storage space, since I’ve set up personal web sharing (in the Sharing pref pane) to stream my entire iTunes library over my college’s subnet. Since I’m on campus 95% of the time, I effectively have my entire 50+ GB music and video library. It’s amazing.
I highly recommend it!
yes, it is so cool, its like having a mini laptop everywhere you go. we just got ours, its awesome, i especially like having it for family albums
Just finished adding all my music and have to say i am loving it, no screen darkness as stated and am still learning how to do everything but all in all it was worth it
I was a little disappointed that it didn’t have the native OS X Mail. I’d like to see it be WiFi Mail enabled with a sync feature so that when I connect it to my Mac I don’t get an Inbox full of stuff I’ve already deleted.
I saw that the Nintendo DS Internet cartridge supports flash content (or at least my work brochure claimed it did). I’d love to try both an iPhone/iPod Touch and the DS and see which gives a better wireless internet experience.
Flash would win me over a larger brighter screen if it works well enough
After poking around online, the DS browser doesn’t seem to support it. I guess my official Nintendo information pages were written with lofty goals before the product shipped. M’oh well.
I’m boycotting both Ipods and Zunes…I want a Zen…after all, creative is all about sound so it makes a lot of sense to me *nods* YAY FOR CHOICES.
I am typing this on my touch. I have to say that I am happy I bought it instead of the iphone. Thankfully I have had almost no trouble adjusting to the typing with the virtual keyboard. It will easily keep me from buying an iPhone until I find it worthwhile to replace my e62. I have had zero issues with it, and quite frankly this is the only iPod I have actually watched a movie on AND enjoyed it.
I had a play with it the other day. So impressed by the touch. I was worried that having a system that worked on finger scrolling and press to select you would end up with errors like going into the wrong artist when you were trying to stop the list scrolling. Supprisingly though the software is really positive. The only issue, and it is a huge issue, is the storage. What were apple thinking?
Lets have a vote here. Who would be happy to have a slightly thicker ipod so that instead of the solid state memory they had a hard drive which would hold 30gig?
Hard Drives Bad, Solid State Good…
Don’t need a HDD on this device. The slim factor has more appeal than making it more robust ( THICK ) to protect a frail HDD. For storage get a Video. Why do people need to carry songs and video they’ll never listen to or watch?

i think i’ll get one, but im going to wait, it’s probably going to get better in a few years and my nano is good for now… says the poor univeristy student :)
I would like one, but the storage is too small. I wound up with a 160GB ‘pod, which is finally large enough to hold all my CDs. Providentially, it came out just as I had filled my 80.
Yeah, I maxed out my 80 gig pod, and just bought the 160 (which seems to only have 147 gig of actual music space). Now my problem is to move my music library to a larger drive.
The computer should take care of that. You do have all those songs in your computer as well right :) 160GB in sales speak mean ~147GB of storage(This includes capacity lost due to the formatting and OS). 1024 conversion ratio as opposed to the 1000 ratio(decimal) used in sales. 160000000000 bytes = 149.01161 gigabytes
I got mine early - about 2 weeks before the official release date to see how I’d like it. I always used my 5th gen more for video than music, so I wanted the new screen and wireless. I have not been disappointed. The space isn’t an issue - 16gb holds all the vids I need to watch and my pathetic few gb of music. The interface is beautiful and the battery kicks butt. The flash hard drive is amazing too. No skipping. It’s super thin compared to the iPhone and lighter all around with room for updates from Apple. I highly recommend if an iPhone isn’t something you need (I already had a phone and a plan with Verizon) and you like the video capability, go for it. It’s very pretty. Beware of screen issues! If your screen tends to show darker images/scenes as a negative…you’re not crazy. Take it back. The software update didn’t fix mine and I wound up exchanging it.
