No spoilers, so read on …
I’m not one of those people who sticks his nose in the air and says “the manga was better”, but in Bleach’s case, it’s unfortunately true. The anime went the way of the dog a long time ago with a filler arc that demolished continuity, but even the movies are terrible. I just finished watching Memories of Nobody, the second Bleach movie, and it’s just awful. I think there’s one minute of Zaraki stabbing someone that brought me a moment of peace, but really - don’t bother.

Wow I should have guessed you would watch anime. I didn’t even know there was another Bleach movie out. I don’t think I’ll ever get to see the rest of the series. But I’m not even sure I’d want to see the rest of it, maybe read, but not watch.
Oh come now, it wasn’t ALL bad… I especially enjoyed the beginning, in which we had a Ichigo/Hollow fight-sequence that reminded me of the good ol’ days, back when Bleach was still starting. Unfortunately, it still had it’s flaws, but… just tryin’ to stay positive. ;)
Bleach is one of those series that was good for awhile, but they cheapen it (like Naruto) with long drawn out fight scenes (and really bad English voice actors)… it really doesn’t surprise me that the movie is crappy. *sighs* Kinda disappointing really.
Hmm.. I didn’t know you watched bleach, but hey I liked the movie! Same goes for the anime though =(
Come on now! The movie was pretty good by anime movie standards. Sure, it’s going the way of the ‘whore anime’((i.e. animes that only give cheap thrills to keep fans attached like Dragonball GT)), but it stil has potential!
I’m sorry to hear all this, I truly am.
Yeah, Ishida with no powers hopping around all over the place and those crappy vampire knock-offs for villains was lame and I seriously hope you of all people were smart enough not to watch filler.
What about the first movie though? I heard the first movie was pretty good. Wouldn’t be surprised if the second one wasn’t. It IS getting redundant with the “and the next level” crap like all anime’s that have episodes numbering in the hundreds do, but eh *shrugs* nothing lasts forever.
It seemed alright until all the bad guys died in less than a minute. Seemed to me that aside from Ichigo all the other characters where their so it could be said they showed up in the movie. I should have lowered my expectations before I watched it, lol.
Ha, weird. I really liked the movie a lot. Guess it’s just one of those things that strikes with some people and not others. *shrug*
Thank you. I’ve been saying the manga has been better for a long time. I’ve never even seen the anime, but I just knew from watching clips that the anime wasn’t worth watching.
Jing, king of bandits, is unfortunetely true in this case as well.
I sure liked the Jing OVA, however. The anime is worse than the manga, but I like it because the art style and character design are unique and a great foundation for the anime. I’m willing to forgive a lot of bad character acting/poorly moved plot if the foundation is good. Now if I could only get my hands on the Gameboy Game, I would be set.
Bleach went the way of Dragonball/Naruto a while ago. I’m only hanging on to the manga to see if the plot can redeem itself. Naruto definitely failed at that.
i like the manga better cause i hate fillers but i will watch the anime for the fight scene that was in the latest chapter 191. that new character rocks xD
FINALLY, someone else recognizes the crappy ness of the bleach movie, course, the musical wasn’t half bad though
sorry there only one bleach movie out there
and the musical was more like a brod way show so it doesnt count and it wass crap… the movie didnt have much depth
Yeah, there is a second movie but Memories of Nobody wasn’t it (the second one isn’t out yet).
In any case, I didn’t have any major objections about the movie until the end. I HATE the ending. Rukia’s little explanation at the end has to be the worst cop-out in the history of cop-outs. They would have been better off if they just left the movie completely out of continuity with the rest of the series and didn’t try to explain its existence.
No, the Sealed Sword Frenzy and the Memories in the Rain were OVA’s not movies.
Yeah, Memories of Nobody is the 1st movie so far. Diamond Dust rebellion is gonna be the 2nd coming out in December. but as far as the “continuity goes - how many Animes have you see where the Movie follows continuity? There are only 2 that I know of - Evangelion (assuming you forget about the last 2 episodes which were crap anyway) and FMA. DBZ, Naruto, Ah! My Goddess, The list kinda goes on. It’s pretty widely accepted that Anime movies are separate from any normal continuity and don’t really fit in the story line. consider when this movie came out in relation to the story-line that was running in the series. Rukia still have almost no power and we had not yet seen her Shikai. but she uses it in the movie. so by the time we see Rukia’s shikai we’re in the arrancar arc, and they have no time fight other bad guys while they’re worrying about Aizen and his goons. so maybe it comes after? but what about Ichigo’s Vizard state? yeah - not poart of continuity - not part of the “normal” Bleach universe. it just a movie. separate story, supposed to be somewhat enjoyable (although there’s not enough time to learn about new characters to really care about them and get invested in them).
^_^
In all seriosity I thought the movie was quite decent, I love bleach read both manga and watch anime and I feel that both have different suporting points creating a better story overall. Duno the movie was completely irelevant but that doesnt change the fact that it reinforced who ichigo realy is.
The obvious answer to this problem of disagreement is that Ananth, as the intelligent literate, cannot enjoy the simplicity that strikes so close to the common anime fan… or it might just be that he has bathed too recently to actually enjoy the movie. Either way I have no idea what I am talking about and I have never seen, nor read, bleach. HAVE FUN!
Nate, I think that’s one of the stupidest things I have ever read on this website. As a fan of “simplistic” as you put it Animé, Manga and good old action flicks you are saying I am unintelligent and non literate. As someone mentioned further down, sometimes I just like to let my mind slide and watch something needless violent with no real plot other than what is needed to get from one action scene to the next.
good thing sarcasm comes across so well on the internets! :P I work at an anime convention.
I have to agree with Nate, that you kinda need to sit back, relax and enjoy the action with Bleach.
If you want something to think about, go watch the S.E. Lain or the Ghost in the shell movies and series (SAC:SSS came out a while ago).
But the movie did not really make that big an impression (I watched it a few days ago and I can’t even remember what happened, aside from the girl and a lot of white stuff at the end).
I.m.h.o. they tried too hard to make it super-mega-action-packed.
What I -did- like was the way they drew me into liking the girl. I have to admit I got kinda attached.
For those that watched it, be sure to stick around for the bit -after- the credits.
As for the series, it just got a bit interesting now that Kisuke-san has joined the fight. I can’t wait for Ichigo’s dad to join in(remember him?, Ichigo’s face would be priceless if he found out).
Well, I suppose it -is- safter to hold still during your lobotomy.
Even if shows aren’t as serious as Evangelion or Lain, they should still bear some semblance of continuity and decent writing. Which a fair amount of Bleach anime does not.
Yeah I did get kinda attached to the girl too. =\ She’d have been a really fun character to watch if she turned up in the main storyline itself.
About Isshin joining in.. =P Yeah I can’t wait. Ichigo and his tirade of facial expressions.. I can never get enough. I’m following the manga and it doesn’t seem anywhere near Isshin joining the battle (yet) though.
Technically, that was the first movie. The other thing was the Jump Feista they make for various reasons. This is the first actual movie. I also enjoyed the movie, it wasn’t a work of art, but for movie standards it was average, only slightly predictable and the girl only annoyed me a little.
I suppose I’ll add that to my conviction that shows should be finite and fairly short. But then my attention span just isn’t that long anymore. I can deal with 25-30 episodes, but last I checked there were hundreds of the things…
Each to their own. I personally like the anime, but that’s probably because the right to left layout of the manga gives me a bit of trouble, as I’m very much used to western left to right.
The filler in the anime is pretty rubbish when compared to the arcs from the manga though.
Eh…it was so-so. The manga is getting pretty good(it kinda reminds me of the soul society arc with a couple of twists and new powers). If the anime ever gets back on track it might be able to save itself
The fillers have ended. The anime *is* back to the main storyline.
I have to agree with Anath..the anime in no way compares. The art in the Manga was simply amazing, the flow when reading was almost like being a part of it. Tite Kubo is a brilliant artist.
I abandoned the manga by around the 7th volume because it seemed anyone could just suddenly acquire powers. I think I’ve only watched a total of under 10 minutes of the anime.
Remember though its a Shonen show (boys fight shows) so its not going to get very in to characters at all, and results to making teh best friend and enemy, the love interest is platonic, and the girls having extreme polar opposites or stundere to the main character.
Bleach probably has the most character development of any manga I’ve ever read (note: I’m a manga fan, not an anime fan). It all just comes in around the Soul Society Arc. :)
Pierrot Studio makes both naruto and bleach anime and both went the way of the toilet a very long time ago. Pierrot Studio is very found of filler episodes (go figure…) and killed both series. The movies are just as bad in the 2 franchises….
(lots of unimportant spoilers, guys~ just so you know…)
It was just incredibly predictable. Like a bad fanfiction. Ichi meets a girl, she happens to be super-special, and he falls for her in two days. Then she gets taken, and all of our buddies go after her. And then all of the Captains with any fanbase. Except Kyoraku and Ukitake cause they’re loyal, even though they want to go, too. Yamamoto does something stupid and everyone hates him. Ichi saves the day dramatically, Hitsugaya has to use his bankai again. Girl goes away, and Ichi remembers even though everyone forgets.
Seriously, it made me cringe… The manga, while downhill right now, is still SO much better… I mean, while their filler was leaps and bounds better than Naruto’s (Kubo got involved in writing it, I think?), I’m just waiting for Ririn, Cloud, Nova to just die. They need to, eventually. BUT THEY KEEP… living. ._.;;
At least the Anime picked up from their Naruto-esque fillers a week or so ago… whee.
Frightening! O_O We get enoph already with the sequal dreck that comes from the american entertainment industry. We must pray the anime industry doesn’t learn that bad habit…
Also if “Memories of Nobody” is the second movie then what’s the first one as I’d like to see it.
-Unshra
the first one had that big stone dude, right?
Honestly, how anyone could have been suckered into thinking Bleach was going t0 be anything but “the next Dragon Ball Z” is beyond my comprehension. I fond any series that’s being heavily promoted to be suspect for lame… Go to the movie store and buy 12 close out VHS tapes for the price of any new anime DVD and i assure you your money will be better spent
Well, it’s the first movie, and I thought it was alright. I liked the Senna character.
I believe bleach7.com said that the movie was “overflowing with bankai” and I think it speaks true to that :p Other than that I don’t think it was worth it. I was hoping the fillers were so bad because there was a focus on the movie.
hey ananth let me ask ou something. Did they say each others names over and over as if we couldn’t follow the conversation?
Actually they didn’t do that. In fact the cast was so large some people didn’t get lines at all. Ishida got like 2 lines in, Chad grunted a few times…O.o
Ah that’s only natural of Chad isn’t it =P
I hope I differ in opinion from yourself Ananth. I downloaded it but haven’t sat down to watch it yet. :( might i suggest watching the Samurai 7 series (it only has a few episodes but well worth it).
Ahh I totaly disagree with the samurai 7 statement, I watched the entire season and I did nto enjoy a single moment of it. The story is just a huge cliche, yes it has a few interesting twists but overall it bored me to tears. To me most of the characters seemed to be way to shalow and could still use some developement.
Just my two cents
Memories of Nobody is the FIRST Bleach movie, and it was much better in the Japanese theaters with no subtitles. Then again, English subtitling has a tendency to suck anyhow, so I think I’ll just stick with my personal Japanese translation. The anime itself went south a bit ago, sure, but the movie was pretty great. :D
I would have to agree with the degree to which this movie sucked. (1-10 where 1 is a little on the suck side to 10 being all sucked out; we will have to go with the 10). I could not even find a plausible story. The anime died a long time ago, and the only way to keep sane with the story would be to follow the manga.
just my thoughts though. :)
As Tara said, currently there is only one Bleach movie and that is Memories of Nobody. The second movie is due out December of this year. As for how Bleach:MoN was, it was good if you weren’t expecting high-packed action, but I still enjoyed it even though it was slower than the filler arcs of the anime - sad but true.
Again, I agree with Tara that the unsubtitled version was much better. My Japanese is terrible, but even I can watch the movies and pick enough out to know what is going on at the important parts. Something is just lost in translation, as is with a lot of anime/manga, and should be enjoyed in its natural form. ^-^
Zaraki stabbing anything is always good in my book. :P
But I suppose it each to its own. I personally find both the anime and the manga to be rather enjoyable, and sure, some of you people look down on those “boy action story” plots, but hey, they’re entertaining and the fight scenes are good. Personally much better than anime that try to be controversial or serious, but fail misearbly.
#Spoiler alert!#
I really liked the part where he suddenly came down laughing his head off like some kind of maniac.
so right.. the anime is great, but the fillers are killing it, badly.. as for the movie.. so much cliche it was amazing -.-’ and the fights were meh.. didnt even have a hollow moment.. weak..
