Heh, saw the subject and though it was about the 4 anime films being played on the bigscree for special events (Full Metal Alchemist, Robotech, Lupin, and Karas). But this def seems interesting too.

I never got much into the robotech series, but I enjoy a good giant robot fight if they do it right..

I think we are missing the main focus here.. They said theres a Voltron movie in the works?

Well, there’s some hope for it… Jason Netter has been on some good works (painkiller jane and b5 to name two) , and his family’s studio Netter Digital does some very good work as well. I guess the only question is: will they stick with the macekre version or go back to the original sources? (I’ll bet we’ll see Carl Macek’s name on it.)

Looks like everyone’s jumping on the Transformers/Giant Robot bandwagon.

Tobey Maquire can totally play a whiny yet cocky hot shot, he has Rick Hunter written all over him.

I bet it’s gonna like the first few episodes robotech. You know “a mysterious alien spaceship crashes on earth. Then over the next few years, the military will adapt it’s alien tech. to their own. Thus creating the giant robots to fight off the huge aliens who came to take there ship back.” I hope they don’t mess it up.

this is a really bad idea in my opinion. the macross saga is to long to fit in one movie, and than after the trilogy you’d need to do it, you’d never get any studio to back the masters or new generation.

as for Toby Maquire for Rick hunter, I can’t see it. he made a good peter parker because he can play a dweeb really well. and his spider-man was okay, but his wit was lacking in, well, wit. he’s also to old.

This all combined with the fact the most producers and studios look for projects with a “how can we change this to something we want” attitude. This has great potentiality to be top gun with giant robots, completely forgetting the epic story.

But who knows, with the people producing, it could turn out well…maybe

IS robotech anime, or is it a spliced and dice of other anime by an american company? Might be interested if it was Macross

I could see this as either being really great or really bad, depending on the cast and how they’ll manage fit the entire saga into one movie. Still, giant robot movies=win for me.

My first thought was, “Ha! Yes, the geeks are taking over!” =D I could see Tobey Maguire as Rick…it makes me laugh though; who in the world is going to play Minmei? XD

As for it being ‘canon,’ I think that Hollywood is learning just how much they can bend a beloved property and how much they need to keep in so that people will actually go see it. There’s always going to be people who yah-yah about what got left out or what got changed, but still. Finally, a live-action Robotech movie! It’s only been on again, off again for the last twenty years or so, or from what I heard at the 20th anniversary panel at AX a few years ago…=P

If it’s really terrible, I don’t care; it won’t change my love for the series I saw back in the day. Just to have it being talked about, let alone done, is enough to thrill my socks off. To see a ‘realistic’ looking Varitech fighter on the big screen? Be still my fangirlish heart.

Learn to make your comic more interesting i mean damn man its rediculous how boring it is to read. Now the daily comic in black and white has its good points thats for sure but the strip you seem to put all your work into has such a dry story line to it granted its art work is great but it seems like you put just way too much time into the art instead of the story. I mean take LFG comic the art work is not the greatest but ill be damned if it isnt funny to read.

Eight to seven the robotech movie will be completely different. It has to be (1) a movie first and foremost; if it isn’t a movie, then it it is so much junk. That’s why Batman Begins was so much better than the other Batman movies before it. That movie was first and foremost a movie.

(2) Any FAITHFUL rendition to the original endeavor is almost grounds for failure; the original endeavor worked because it was grounded in its medium. Again, take the earlier Batman movies in the nineties: with the possible exception of the first one, the others were crap because they tried to force the original comic paper stock characters onto a completely different medium.

(3) A comic/manga has more time than a movie; the chances that a transition has screwed up increases exponentially. The only saving grace Iron Man has is the suit, the only point that the trailers are probably going to get right.

I hope this goes better than that Battletech movie I was looking foward to… They hyped that one up and then it died out after awhile… Maybe I can look foward to seeing that again. ^^

I think this movie could work out as they managed to pull out a good Transformers live action movie. I remember when everyon was bellyaching over that one about how crummy it would be? I was delightfully proven wrong on that and it gives me hope for this movie to turn out nice. That and maybe I can finally see that battletech movie finished!

I’m interested in seeing how it comes out too!! I remember watching it before I had to leave for elementary school. Max was always my favorite!!! I wonder who will play him…
