… about “The New Face of America”. It had a chart which showed what different races looked like when they were combined. Anyone know what I’m talking about and know where I can find it? All I can seem to find are images of the cover of that edition of TIME … the article is from November 18th, 1993.

yeaah i know exactly what you’re talking about. Our school has it as a poster in the hallway of one of the buildings. I’d get you a photo or something, but, alas, it being summer and all, it’s locked up.

As you say, it’s easy to find the cover and the text of the articles, (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/0,9263,7601931118,00.html) but not the chart. Need a hard copy to scan…

eMail me c.woj.putt@gmail.com with the location in the union and I’ll see if I can get a photo, I’ll be nearby at Ottawa Park tomorrow.

If you think about it, marrying outside your racial group is about the healthiest thing you can do for your children. Genetically speaking at least.

Comment by John
2007-06-16 19:48:17

Well, it’s healthy for their gene pool (INbreeding is baaaaaad). Problematic if they ever need a bone marrow transplant, though. (http://www.intermix.org.uk/news/news_181005_01.asp)

Comment by jordan

actually on a genetic level race is not actually viable to determine a difference. Not only is it one of the smallest DNA strands, but it doesn’t even imply a difference elsewhere, you are just as likely to be genetically similar to some one of a different race as of the same

Hiss Boo! Irish Rawk!

Speaking as a geneticist, inter-racial relations are quite healthy. Although the genes governing skin colour are themselves small and meaningless, the races do have other less visible tendencies due to years of genetic distance.. Black people tend to have better immune systems and are genetically more versatile overall, Europeans tend to have a higher incidence of cystic fibrosis and Autism, etc etc.

Outbreeding for the win!

After checking my microfilm collection I got from a library that was closing down, I found I do have the issue, and the article in question! Sadly, my microfilm reader has a broken print function, and all the libraries are closed by now and will not be open again until monday, so the most I would be able to get you is a picture of the microfilm reader screen, unless your willing to wait.

Ok, we do realize that the entire published issue from that magazine was already posted by Heather, and you can view all the articles… encase you missed it:

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/0,9263,7601931118,00.html

or is the article ananth is wanting not in there???

Comment by Crystal
2007-06-17 00:00:20

The article itself is very easy to come across, but all that is on the TIME archive is the text. I believe he needs the spread that is on pg 66 and 67, which is being a bugger to find.

The title of the actual article as far as I can tell is “Rebirth of a Nation, Computer Style” I tried to see if I could get it off the online resource library from my college but it wouldn’t accept my student id and pin, I’m assuming because its the middle of the summer.

I may be able to help, not sure though. I’m a weekend/evening supervisor in an academic library and I know we have the Time archives going back to first publishing date. I know we will have this article, picture, and chart and may be able to get it scanned for you, though probably not until Monday.

Ok, couldn’t find the picture, but found some info that may help others find the spread.

Photographer: Ted Thai;
Computer Morphing: Kin Wah Lam;
Design: Walter Bernard and Milton Glaser

These were the guys involved in the project, titled Eve or Sim-Eve.

Also, missionstrategy.org apparently used to have an image of the 2-page spread on their website (or so several forums I found stated) but it has since been removed.

Hope this helps someone find it. Good Hunting.
