Here’s the article that the AG Lite is based off of - the shark in fact reproduced through a process called parthenogenesis, where a female shark provides both halves of the genetic code for its offspring. It’s outlined more closely in the article, which is pretty interesting.

Hope you’re all having a good Memorial Day weekend!

This kind of makes me wonder if Mary was like that… now after thinking it, I feel a bit bad.

Parthenogenesis (reproduction without a male) produces clones of the original animal. That means that in mammals, such a birth would always be female. (Reptiles can be different because in some cases, like alligators, gender isn’t dictated solely by genetics.) So, even if we were to falsely assume that Jesus of Nazareth were not conceived by the Holy Spirit, it’s not possible for Him to have been the result of this type of reproduction.

Good grief, and religious people are accused of being the ones who are lacking in scientific reasoning skills.

This just proves that Jesus was totally a chick.

mary probably got raped in her sleep and was impregnated. after that she got herpes. herpes have the ability to cause illusions and hallucinations. so when she saw an angel, it was probably the herpes messing with her. the herpes were not serious enough to kill her yet. (JUST A SCIENTIFIC THEORY THAT MAY BE CORRECT)

Or she fooled around with some guy, didn’t want to spill the beans and called it a miracle…

that could be true as well, back at that time period, people who have children, but werent married or in some bond were to be stoned or killed in a way. mary probably lied about everything to avoid being killed. but the story of jesus becoming the “king” of bethleham is something unexplained. why would mary believe that jesus is ” a king”

Ok, thats are good theories, and are as disturbing as my theory… more or less. Victor… very detailed, Deus Mortus, simple.

I guess this scientifically increases the chanses to confirm that Virgin Mary was an actual virgin and not just cheating on Jacob…or whatever his name was…

Hey, Isn’t that the process/theory that was the way that the dinosaurs reproduced in the original Micheal Crichton Jurassic Park book? Can’t be sure, book not in house… I think that was from some South American Bull Frog gene or something…

From what I remember in the movie they did mention frogs, but changing their sex. Which does happen, if there’s a dominant sex in the population (like the dinos in JP), then some will become become the opposite sex.

I don’t know exactly how the change occurs nor why certain individuals. They must carry both sex chromes to change? But I’m guessing, since I’m not a biologist and hated high school biology :P.

Interesting article.

well from what i remember of bio class it works like this: each sex chromosome pair has two chromosomes in it (hence “pair”). for a female these are X and Y. i’m no scientist, but if two female chromosomes pairs came together their ought to be a 50% chance it would be female(XY or YX), 25% chance it would be male(XX), and 25% chance it would be some kindof abomination that would likely just die (YY). shouldn’t that be how it works? I’m not sure, this was only my speculation.

but on the topic of jesus. he can’t be the result of parthenogenesis because everyone knows jesus was really a timetraveler from the future. miracles? no. alien technology? yes!

now commence calling me an idiot:

Nope, I would however have to believe Jesus was a bit of a tool to get caught if he was from the future if thats the case…

But if that is true, then what we think of as the Second Coming of Jesus will actually be his First Coming. The second time just happened first.

Female is XX, male is XY. Which is why female-only reproduction can only ever produce more females.

Hm, that’s really strange, yet strangely hilarious. :P

But yeah, kind of ironic how the “Jesus Shark” was killed by a stingray not long after its birth. So much for that messiah. (plz don’t smite me)
