Executive Producer credits for The Gamble

So the big news in comics lately has been the death of Captain America. Sorry if that’s a spoiler, but it’s been all over the news.

Marvel just posted this with the question: Is this the new Captain America?

I actually like what they’ve been doing - first with Civil War, then assassinating Captain America, and now this (if they are going through with it). I am not a big superhero comics guy, I guess, but Civil War piqued my interest. I think how the last issue of Civil War ended was weak, though, and I think that it is wholly symbolic that Captain America was killed by a sniper, because the bastard dodged bullets, went toe-to-toe with the Hulk, and punched Hitler in the face. There is no way he is killed by a sniper unless the writers were trying to make a point, which is fine. But this is where I have a big gripe.

All Marvel says about Civil War and the death of Captain America is that people should “wait and see” and that it’s open to interpretation and people should decide for themselves. There’s no open interpretation here. Captain America is the American ideal from WWII, and the Punisher is a character who has always been out on the lam. He’s always painted as a vigilante and often times as villainous. His family was killed, he’s a Vietnam war vet, and he considers himself judge, jury, and executioner. For them to even imply that the Punisher could be the new Captain America leaves absolutely nothing open to interpretation. Marvel is trying to make a point, and they should stop bullshitting and get honest about it.

I know a lot of comics readers are going to hate Civil War and the aftermath, but I always like to see comics parallel the real world. Marvel’s doing an interesting thing here, and they’re making a huge statement, but they need to own up to it.

(On a pure sidenote, as a designer I have got to say that that Cap-Punisher character design makes me barf.)

Over a hundred comments and a barrage of e-mails … I guess you guys like the Eve figure … !! My jaw sort of dropped when I got to work and saw the overwhelmingly positive response to Hawk’s post.

So glad you guys like it!

After months of silence, though we did mention this a few times at panels, I can finally show you guys what we have been working on for a while. Allow me to present you the Eve Figure!

Produced in conjunction with leading Japanese Anime Toy Manufacturer Gensen Figures, the Eve figure is beautifully sculpted and painted at 6″ tall. Gensen did a beautiful job pulling our loveable Mac robot out of the page into a living 3D space.

As of right now the Eve figure is not for sale. What you see right now is the prototype. However, if this really got you itching, drop us a line and let us know you’re interested.

I’m running late on the comic, but after seeing this..who cares right? ;)

EDIT:

Here’s a picture comparing the figurine to a video ipod.

(FYI, if you’re sending us an email, please include [AGMail] in the subject line. Thanks)

Brian Carroll would like to extend his thanks to the five cats who bought up the Executive Producer credits for his film The Executioner. He left me a message letting me know all 5 were sold as of this morning.

Hope you’re having a good weekend - I’m trying hard to forget that it’s Monday tomorrow. -_-
