Last night was the first time I ever watched! (I know, I’m a freak.) It was pretty interesting … nice to see Scorcese won two Oscars! About time.

ALSO I THINK THE OSCARS WANT TO MAKE OUT WITH AL GORE.

And apparently, he isn’t running for president.

Blame the Oscar orchestra.

I loathe the Oscars. My job is watching the news, and as such I have been subjected to so much drivel related to it that I’ve been overexposed for weeks.

But gratz to Scorcese, even though I never saw The Departed.

I was just happy to see The Lives of Others win…normally, new directors don’t win, but Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck really deserved it…

I think Departed was a pretty entertaining movie but I wouldn’t award it for being the best picture and having the best direction. But I was pleased and a bit surprised seeing The Life of Others “beating” Pan’s Labyrinth. Obviously being a good german patriot that makes me feel very proud of my countries’ blooming motion picture industry! ;o)

Pan’s Labyrinth rocks like I never saw a movie rocking in the last years, despite it is advertised as being Potter-like fantasy crap while in reality it’s a very realistic and sad story.

and what exactly is wrong with “Potter-like fantasy crap”?

unless you’re just referring to the movies in which case I have no problem.

I’m referring only to the movies and to all the other ugly-kids-in-fantasy-world-pictures like Lemony Snicket and Narnia. I never read the books so I can hardly say what they’re like.

dont bash narnia…the movie was really close to the book…its not like lord of the rings at all…CS lewis wrote it for a young audience so it isnt that scary and has little gore…sept for the stone table of course…

Well, guess that simply makes me the wrong man for that sort of fantasy. Whenever I saw trailers for that kind of fantasy picture I expected something only Pan’s Labyrinth was able to deliver till now.

i despise award shows.

that said: i’m glad to hear Scorsese’s finally got a couple to his name (the departed was awesome), and to see that pan’s labyrinth got six.

also, i think it would be kind of cool if Al went and got elected after this, just to have a man in the white house with an Oscar on his shelf. i know it’d piss some republicans off; a democratic president with more academy recognition that Regan.

Gore didn’t win an Oscar. A documentary he was in won an Oscar.
If Scorcese hadn’t won director himself, then even though The Departed won best picture, he still would have been at zero.
In much the same way, even though Gore’s the big name on the documentary, *he* did not win the Oscar.

Host = Ellen Degeneres… she’s okay. First time hosting so she was good for a first time Oscar host.
Pizza was more interesting than watching, I liked the animated characters in the audience bit though!
There were alot of jokes here and there, but nothing worthy to notice.

Those giant Shadow puppets rocked!

I… actually enjoyed the Oscars this year? Possibly because it wasn’t a “OMG BIG BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE WINS TWELVE AWARDS!!!!111″ thing for once.

… Though I still secretly wanted Little Miss Sunshine to win. :(

And yeah. Al Gore was the freaking “it” item of the show.

i think the only big block buster that won was Pirates…and it deserved to…its cgi was way better than the other ones…

I’d give a commentary…but FF6 Advance was singing it’s sweet siren song to me, so I only barely paid any attention. But those big ass shadow puppets were really cool! Especially the Snakes on a Plane one.

And is it me, or is Jack Nicholson looking REALLY old?

lol, I love the LOST (Light comic). We have had the same impression when we talk to the writters of the show a few weeks ago. Its like the project (The show) is out of control and is just to big now to reign in lol!

I’m feeling you on the Al Gore lovefest that was the Oscars. He practically had a sign on his butt that said “Place lips here!”

I was kinda disappointed that “Pan’s Labyrinth” didn’t get the Best Foreign Film, but it did pick up a few awards so I’m content. Plus, I haven’t had a chance to see “The Lives of Others” yet, so maybe that selection was completely justified. “Pan” was the best movie I’ve seen all year though.

I haven’t seen “Pan’s” but I have seen “Lives”, so we are somewhat in the same boat. I’ve heard “Pan’s” is really good…but when “Lives” was done, I started clapping, and everyone else in the theater joined along. It is SO good…
