At the behest of Yuko (Aido), I picked up Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. I played through part of the first case this morning, and I love it. I’m probably going to pick up Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk soon … I live under a rock and hadn’t realized they still made good text-based games.
We’ll be at Katsucon this year. I don’t think the site has been updated with webcomics guests, but there’s a bunch of us. Hopefully we’ll see you there!

Katsucon… Hell… Yes.
Aweseom, I hope to see you guys there at Katsucon.
I picked Phoenix up just over two weeks ago after being peer pressured (read: told to get it so my friends can play it once I beat it), I am on the final case, and have loved every second of the game.
Trace Memory is really good. There are multiple ways to end it, depending on how much you find. I still haven’t found everything, and I’ve played through it about ten times.
Yes, Trace Memory definitely is fun, although the opening is reallllyyyyy lonnnggggg. which isn’t a big deal until the next couple of times you have to play it and you’re just like,” HURRRYYYYY UPPPPPPP…”
XD
Ingenious game though, I think thus far it makes the best use of all the DS features, and even some things you never even thought your DS could be used for.
if you like phoenix wright, you should try trauma center. there’s a version for the ds and one for the wii, both good.
I heard Ace Attorney was good, but I never heard of the other two. I always thought “Good Text-based games” was as much of an oxymoron as “honest politician.”
If you like Phoenix Wright, check out the “Phoenix Wrong” series at Newgrounds! Hilarious stuff.
Trace memory was a nice game all around. The pace moved only as fast as ytou wanted it to, and it’s a great change to play detective. I also like the chapter recaps so that as you progress through the game it makes you start thinking about the verious connections and relationships of everything.
I’d recommend passing on Trace Memory. I find it plays like a glorified tech demo rather than an actually engaging game.
*dances* Awesome that you’re going to be at Katsu. :D
Trace Memory is definitely a fun one. Now I all of a sudden have the urge to go play it…
*goes to play Trace Memory*
text based games??? You mean like the old infocom games? Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Zork, Planetfall? Those games rocked. It is amazing how good a text game can be in this age of visual stimulus. I used to play Infocom games on my TI 99/4a.
I Got PW justice for all a few monthes ago.
Oh my god. Why is everyone I know picking up these games? I can feel myself being pulled down into the black hole of yet another hopeless addiction as I type…
If you do get Trace Memory, you’ll finish it in 2 days. You might wanna rent it.
