Meh. I installed Vista and it loaded just fine. Took about half an hour to install. Only thing that doesn’t work is my scanner that was declared End of Life years ago.
I think Anthony is just jumping on the “Let’s Bash Microsoft” band wagon.
The only thing better than seeing that was reading the comments to the video. People need to realize that the guy iss doing it to be funny but seeing people take offense to someone destroying a vista disk is quite amusing.
I am aware that he’s doing it to be “funny.” It’s just not for me. I take offense to bashing a company because it’s the IT thing to do.
What pains me is that he spent between $160 and $200 to have it fail installing, and that he could have given it to me instead of shredding it. Or at least sold if for some good money.
Oops, $160 to $240.
You will note that it is a shrink wrapped package that he opens, it was never installed before (correct me if I am wrong). Therefore is is all a joke.
Both my mac and my pc thought it was funny though.
yea, the “blue screen of death’ is exagerated, me and my friends have only ever used Windows and have never got a blue screen of death
Sorry to tell you, but I’m leaving this comment on a Windows PC, and I get the blue screen constantly.
Ditto to that. I finally made the switch cause I had one blue screen of death too many.
Umm, yeah my work computer (a windows 2000 machine) just blew up in my face. Blue screen of death. The works. 2.5hrs later with tech support finally got me up and running again, but I’ll still have to spend another 3 hours “re-imaging” the damn thing.
The only people that I know of who have windows machines that have not gotten the blue-screen-of-death are those who either NEVER connected their machine to the internet, or those who are extreme power users and have degrees in computer science.
That’s what you get for being an early adopter. I’ll probably buy Vista myself one day. But until then I’ll be perfectly content with free goodness that is linux and maybe OS X if I can ever get that running. People complain that Vista sucks because it’s not compatible with whatever hardware they’re using. There’s another non-windows/non-linux OS that is not compatible with 90% of the computers of the world and no one seems to complain about that.
dude its probably not the best idea to dis mac os on an apple based webcomic
I’m not dissing the mac at all. I’m just saying that you can’t criticize an OS for being incompatible with some hardware when the one you use is also incompatible with some if not most hardware. I have no problem with OS X. It’s just mac users criticizing windows for being windows sounds so immature to me.
Pretty funny, although I find it a bit strange that while he claimed to have tried installing it on a brand new computer, he had to break the shrinkwrap to shred it… so either he re-shrinkwrapped it (doubtful) or never really tried in the first place…
I will get Vista after they release Service Pack 1 for it.
until then, I ain’t touching their buggy shit.
mmm giant pizza.
It’s nice to see someone show how to properly handle DRM. :)
my PC’s to old for Vista…so i ain’t touching that for a long long time….But the guy did make me happy by shredding it.I kinda dislike microsoft after the XP64bit edition.
I think they replaced the Blue Screen After win98….with that shitty little thing that tells you that a certain program has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I get that one a lot.
You can still get BSOD but it has to be a major failure, I think I’ve managed to pull it off twice on Windows XP machines :)
No wonder I moved to Linux.. still had to have Windows on a partition because that what is used at work.. >.
No wonder I moved to Linux.. still had to have Windows on a partition because that what is used at work.. but Linux is so much better. I admit however that I may get a Big Mac (I don’t mean the hamburger -.- ) in the future.
That’s hilarious. I must say Hawk…You might get another Apple lover, or two. At least from my household. Never thought I’d say it, but Vista pisses me off.
Oh, wow, that video *totally* made the past 17 years of my life worth it all.
I’m not a fan of O&A…but this was a RIOT! “Oh, I’ll get it to work in this machine.” PRICELESS!
But I’m a big believer in upgrading, so please upgrade from Windows XP…and get a Mac.
I wish we could have seen proof of him having the blue screen of death. oh well. :( Still very sad though.
I lol’ed.
Though, I don’t think I would of shredded the program… especially since it’s pretty damn expensive.
He probably didn’t even buy it or he has money to blow. Either way microsoft got there money out of it.
While highly amusing, this is also very saddening for me, a PC user. You see, the problem is not hardware by a long shot, and I doubt that any Service Packs by Microsoft will fix the issues? Why? Because Vista has DRM software built into it that makes a seemingly stable computer system wildly unstable. Only a rock-solid stable system would function properly, such as any number of machines built by computer manufacturers like Dell for example.
However, if any of you PC users are like me, we like our custom built rigs that are tailored to our own exacting specifications. And Vista’s DRM does not like that.
Here’s a couple of links to news articles that sum up the issues pretty nicely. Given what happened in the youtube video that Hawk linked us to, I can only imagine that the predictions made in these articles are already starting to come true.

What am I gonna do? First of all, I’m gonna learn how to use Linux. Second, when I have the money, I’ll buy myself a nice little Mac Book. I figure with a desktop Linux system and a Mac Book I cannot go wrong.
Only a rock solid machine? In XP, my Nforce 5 series hardware was all messed up (except the RAID driver, thank god), my ATAPI drivers were botched, I couldn’t run my video card with all accelerations on without causing artifacts, etc. I was getting crashes constantly.
Since I upgraded to Vista (back at RC1
…
Since I upgraded to Vista (back at RC1
- Beta Tester) my system is rock solid. The only exceptions are codec issues with MKV and ffdShow. Not a single BSoD and the only hardware compatablility is my scanner.
It’s a custom built rig, too. For the love of the maker, I’m running my ATI X1900xtx video card through an Nvidia SLI motherboard and Vista is still solid when compared to XP.
The DRM software hasn’t effected me in the least.
Oh, and the video? Entirely bogus. As was mentioned above, he has to BREAK THE SHRINKWRAP on the package. He never tried to install it. Like I said above, he was just jumping on the Bash MS Bandwagon.
Sorry, didn’t realize the software had HTML enabled.
OMG lol apple is the rocksors! vista is the sucksors!
That was great. I like this one too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaIUkwPybtM
at least it was a bit less bitter than watching a dude shred a piece of software that’s costs more than my paycheck.
So I loaded t Vista Trial on my PC (Piece of Crap) at work and it overrode my Word, Excel, PPt apps. It took me 3hrs to rectify. Thats 3hrs of design time gone out t window. Screwed up jus like th idiots that came up with Vista …isnt that a crackers brand in SA?!
Vista has been great so far. A little problems getting my TV Tuner to work, but switching it out for one that isn’t old and made by some unknown company seemed to have fixed it. Other than that, I haven’t had a single problem. I can use all the same software I used to, I get the new functionality that XP didn’t have, and I don’t have to log in to my college’s crappy network anymore (Not sure as to why, but at least I don’t have to run Clean Access anymore). It looks better and runs at the same speed as XP for me. I also got my copy free. Being a computer science major has it’s benefits.
I would be more inclined to get a Mac if I had the money and it was capable of playing most games. I’ve never understood the arguments for Mac since they seem to switch between two main ones with no warning whatsoever, the argument of Windows vs Mac (Distinguishing based on OS) PC vs Mac (Distinguishing based on Hardware, regardless of OS). From what I have gathered, Bootcamp allows a person to boot to Windows on a Mac, which seems to be the major argument for why Macs can play games. This seems silly to me since it doesn’t really seem like a Mac to me anymore if it’s running Windows. Another thing seems to be the complaint that Vista copied Mac, which is just silly to complain about. It’s like complaining that Restaurant A added a chicken sandwich to their menu to compete with Restaurant B. If something works, then why shouldn’t they incorporate it? ATI added Crossfire to compete with NVidia’s SLI. It’s all in the name of competition. If one company were to cease to exist then the other wouldn’t have the need to improve themselves, they already have the entire market share, why try? That’s what happened with Windows for a while, now that Mac is more common they have to start trying.
I plan on getting a Macbook as soon as I can afford one, but currently I don’t have the funds, and I in no way plan to abandon my PC since I love the computer gaming too much. The only problem with me getting a Macbook is that I seem more inclined to upgrade my PC than save the total sum to get a Macbook. Something nice comes in my range for purchasing and I end up getting it setting me back on my goal of a Macbook. Maybe once I’m not so busy with college I can get a job with decent pay.
