Yeah, that's definately a lever tap (You can tell by the reflection on the top of the faucet). My house is ruled by them. Those things sometimes do have a medium setting but getting it to work is like finding a key in a used needle stack (Watch "Saw II"). What's a REAL pain now, is when you've got the knob turned all the way to hot, you expect it to be hot, and it turns your hands to ice. DO NOT LEAVE YOU BASEMENT OPEN DURING THE WINTER!

In most cases it would be a good idea to turn both the hot and cold on to level things out, although if you look at the picture I believe he has a single lever type tap or a twist knob type tap. Basically there isn't a good way to operate those its just scalding or freezing because all the adjusting you do doesn't mix the lines it just crosses over from hot to cold at some point across the center. That and his hands are important: Hawk+burned hands=potential comic delay (no one wants that to happen)

I did exactly the same thing - the iPod works, but the battery won't - it's now a Apple "iPod Flashdrive". Did you know the iPod Shuffle functions if you remove all the parts from the white case? Bizarre, but cool!

I saw a flicker pic of a second gen shuffle that had been run over by a car - it had a bunch of dents from the road, but worked fine.

But yah, i hear ya about the water. The water at my house is never very hot, while the water at my dorm is so hot that running the sink at full temp for a few minutes causes the bathroom to fog! Not just the mirror, but the room itself!

I dunno, the white bit at the bottom's fallen off mine and it's still survived a couple of rainstorms... but that's probably luck.
