you could always just ask to have the Mac Faucet created, it would probably be more user friendly.

The European word works better: iTap. Faucet sounds like a disease.

Hawk, this may sound like an odd question, but by any chance would the heater that heats the water be either an electric 1, or 1 of those gas “combi boilers”? As opposed to a system where the boiler heats the water which then gets stored in a seperate & insulated hot water tank I mean.

The reason I ask is I have a gas combi boiler, & if I run the water too slow I burn my hands, but if I run it at full speed it’s just about ok. It’s the same sort of principle [at least with mine] as 1 of those electric shower units – the faster the water goes through it, the less time the unit has to heat the water.

I think I’ve got one of those in my flat here in London.

Whenever I have a shower it’s a nightmare, because no matter how I twist the knobs the water only comes out one of two temperatures: arctic or scalding.

Which is actually an improvement over the entire month of April last year, when the water only had one temperature. Take a guess which it was.

I did exactly the same thing – the iPod works, but the battery won’t – it’s now a Apple “iPod Flashdrive”. Did you know the iPod Shuffle functions if you remove all the parts from the white case? Bizarre, but cool!

I saw a flicker pic of a second gen shuffle that had been run over by a car – it had a bunch of dents from the road, but worked fine.

But yah, i hear ya about the water. The water at my house is never very hot, while the water at my dorm is so hot that running the sink at full temp for a few minutes causes the bathroom to fog! Not just the mirror, but the room itself!

I dunno, the white bit at the bottom’s fallen off mine and it’s still survived a couple of rainstorms… but that’s probably luck.

Most water-heaters, of whichever size, have a temperature setting so that you can set the maximum temp. Lots of people set this below hand-scalding range so they (or their kids, f’rinstance) don’t hurt themselves.
If you’ve got a limited-size water heater, or if you’re in an apartment, this may not be the answer for you, but it’s the first thing that came to mind.

Some of us frugal people (read: cheapskates) set it lower as to spend less money on gas.

Also, there may be 2 shut offs under the sink – if you close the hot one some you may have more control on the faucet.

or… here’s a crazy idea… try mixing ur hot and cold? for most ppl this is second nature, and if ur doing that and still coming up too hot then something’s wrong w/ ur cold water and u need to call a plumber. just a thought… (and if it’s a case of either too hot or too cold… well, sux to have no control I guess, it’s not like it’s rocket science)

In most cases it would be a good idea to turn both the hot and cold on to level things out, although if you look at the picture I believe he has a single lever type tap or a twist knob type tap. Basically there isn’t a good way to operate those its just scalding or freezing because all the adjusting you do doesn’t mix the lines it just crosses over from hot to cold at some point across the center. That and his hands are important: Hawk+burned hands=potential comic delay (no one wants that to happen)

2007-01-13 03:39:14

Yeah, that’s definately a lever tap (You can tell by the reflection on the top of the faucet). My house is ruled by them. Those things sometimes do have a medium setting but getting it to work is like finding a key in a used needle stack (Watch “Saw II”). What’s a REAL pain now, is when you’ve got the knob turned all the way to hot, you expect it to be hot, and it turns your hands to ice. DO NOT LEAVE YOU BASEMENT OPEN DURING THE WINTER!
