Another curious question, how many of you own a Nike+? Do you find it useful?

I bought my husband the whole set for x-mas, and he really likes it. It keeps track of his time and progress, and the Nike website tells him where he’s the slowest so he knows where to work on things. He likes that it tells him how much longer he has to go and it does a little countdown for him for the last 500 meters. He’s running a half marathon at Disney World in January, so it’ll help him count down the miles. He is, however, having some trouble calibrating it, though.

Hey, my girlfriend’s dad is running the full marathon there. He has the set and likes it, except Nike’s are too heavy for him so he cant use them for more than 3 or 4 miles

I have the adapter for the Nike+ so I can attach it to my non Nike+ shoes. It’s super easy and workes well for me.

I got it for Christmas and I love the thing. I got it calibrated by walking and running on a treadmill so I could track the actual amount that it does. It does a countdown as you get close to your finishing time/mile or you can just do a basic workout and it will track it for you. I’ve been telling everyone about it and have about two people that are looking at getting one.

I have one and I love it! No more having to remember your weight or variances thereof on the treadmill - Nike+ calculates everything accurately. It’s awesome and I love it :-)

Well, I’ll tell you one thing, don’t punch with it. Still, when your jogging, sprinting, or biking, its great! It never gets in the way or falls off. But if you DO punch with it, dont be afraid, all Apple products are build to last a nuclear attack.

It depends what you define as useful, and to whom?

You can just turn off the sensor, or remove it from the shoe. I assume removing it from your shoe would prolong its battery life, and if it does, it might be in your best interest anyway. Not to mention, the kit seems more likely to be used by people who are working out… ergo, these would be workout shoes, so, why would you wear them elsewhere? That’s kind of gross. Also, as far as stalking goes, if you’re being stalked, chances are that person already knows your usual haunts and when you hit them up, so, the point is moot.

Its a beatup. There are quadrillions of better, easier ways of stalking people.

Its pretty easy to restrict RFID signals, anyway… making a small Faraday cage around the sensor would severely cripple the transmission range of the device - meaning that any receiver would have to be within a metre of the sensor - a range at which actually detecting presence using the sensor is pointless anyway.

In some offices and buildings, faraday cages are built into the structure of the buildings to allow perfect WiFi transmission inside, and completely dead WiFi signal outside the building.

So THAT’s what the deal is with those. lol. I see commercials for it all the time. I thought it was just a marketing move. =P

I bought a Nike+ adapter with the Nano I got Alyssa when the 2nd gen models were released… she hasn’t even touched it yet… partly because she hasn’t attached the sensor to her non-Nike+ running shoes, and partly because I think it’s kind of intimidating for her to get into. I imagine she’ll break down and fire it up when she’s ready tho…

My father got me a Ipod Nano for christmas with the Nike+ with it, so far it’s amazing, it makes keeping track of how long I’ve been running or so forth so on.

I bought a set of the shoes/chip for my mother this holiday season. She’s excited to use it, and we’ve all heard good things. She had surgery on her foot, so she can’t run yet however.

But if you run, I’d say go for it.

Oh, and keep in mind you need the ipod nano, the nike+ chip set, as well as the specially designed nike shoe. It’s high tech. It’s got a hole in the heel under the sole for the chip. It’s the future people! It’s finally here!

I’ve had my sports kit since August and I love it. I think it helped me through the tough early stages of transition from coach potato to runner. I really enjoy the virtual racing aspect and levelling up in the leaderboard.

I ordered one yesterday since all my relatives and in-laws, except my lovely fiancée, grinched me with either wedding stuff or crap. Not one thing on my Christmas list was bought. Seriously, is it so hard to get the Nike+ Sports Kit, Lost Season 2, or any 360 game?

But yeah, my brother-in-law got the Sports Kit for Christmas, even though I strongly hinted at it. A lot.

Fed Ex should be delivering it Monday or Tuesday.

I used to play soccer, and have since gotten out of it. I bought this early december and it has totally gotten me back into running. The only thing is that i run the hills of SF and it doesn’t have an elevation field. I think it’s designed to run on flat ground, or a treadmill. I drilled a hole under the sole in my New Balance shoes to fit the reciever and it’s like it’s not even there (cause everyone knows Nike running shoes suck). Hope this helps dude!!

My brother got me one for christmas, the Nano is really sweet, super light, the stop watch timeing and calender tracking is awesome. The thing is the Nano is easy to use (of course) holds about 1.74MG, also i can make a picture gallery on it, (of course i put some AppleGeeks pics on it ^.^).

The hole nike+ thing…is just a brainwasher so people can buy nike shoes….*cough* nike sucks *cough* hehe. but anyway if you want a cool iPod thats easy to use, really cute small size, and whatnot, I would deff. recomened that you get one.

I love it so far, been using it for about a month with my nano and new balance shoes. Had to modify the shoes slightly but it was pretty basic. I run fairly often 2 or 3 20k’s a year 5 or 6 10k’s and a whole bunch of 5k’s. Plus just running in the morning.

I do a lot of forest running and I just forget where I am or how far I’ve gone and it’s really helpful for reminding me… time to go home :P.

If your gonna buy it, don’t waste your money on nike’s. Especially if you don’t like them. The sensor is pretty small anyway and while it’s a pain to drill open your shoes, if you have a dedicated pair of running shoes there isn’t too much to worry about.

I really love the idea, but what to do for non-Nike shoes? I’m an old school adidas fan, and I’m hard pressed to give up my new Megabounces for some Shox. I figure you could fit the sensor in the shoe somewhere, but it seems like it would be a lot easier for it to be destroyed.Other than that, I think it’s a great idea, like having a trainer for your cardio.

Holy cow, words cannot express how much I love my Nike+iPod set. I went nuts with the kit, the shoes, the armband, etc. A little pricey, but completely worth it… there’s 10x more motivation for me to go run when I have it as opposed to when I don’t. It’s pretty much the best use for an iPod Nano that I have seen thus far. Also, if you don’t want to buy the shoes, they have a pouch you can buy for it now, but I actually like the Nike+ shoes.

I read that the sensor you slot into your nikes runs on a non-replaceable battery, and they don’t know how long they last. Hopefully they’ll come up with a decent replacement deal where dead sensors can be replaced for a fee.
Until they do, I’d keep my money in my pocket

If you don’t want to buy Nike+ shoes or drill a hole in your perfectly fine running shoes, you can pay $10 for Marware’s SportSuit Sensor+ which attaches the transmitter to your shoelaces. If you need a running case too, Marware includes the Sportsuit Senesor+ with it’s SportSuit Relay.
