I don’t get anything like that when I search those queries. Nor have I had anything like that when I searched for things I shouldn’t be searching for at school. o_O;; I really don’t understand why it would be happening to you.

Could be that you changed your user/agent for Safari? Google gets prissy about that sometimes.

They use that to make sure you’re not a spam-bot, cause bots can’t read the squiggly text.

Or did you mean the error in general? That I don’t know about.

You might want to check what the rest of the actual URL looks like, and see if it tells you what your query was.

It’s unlikely, but possible that you actualy do have a virus that tacked something on to the end of your search string.

As I said, it’s particularly unlikely since you’re using OS X and Safari, but is a quick thing to check.

Tried the same queries with Safari and did not get an error. Notice that it’s a 403 error which suggests it is a problem on the server side and not with your query (despite the error message that Google has returned). It may have just been a temporary glitch or outage on their end.

It’s the old Google logo. Notice no fancy embossing.

I used to get this error a lot. It turned out I shared an IP address with 4 other people one of whom was a spammer (this also explained why I found myself, or more specifically my IP address, banned from forums I had never even been on before in my life). Not sure if this is what’s happening to you, but if it is, what worked for me was to contact my provider and have them change my IP address.

Long time reader, first time poster.

Chances are good you either a) share an IP address with a spammer/robot or b) have your “User-Agent String” set to something awful. If you have no idea what part b means, it *shouldn’t* apply unless you have a virus. It’s a fairly easy virus to write, too – anyone with just a little knowledge of *NIX computers could do it. Try uninstalling and reinstalling your browser of choice.

Hey guys,

As far as I can tell this is a normal Google error whenever they are either experiencing extreme traffic spikes or if a machine in the same domain as yours (or your ISP) is infected with a virus that might be spamming the Google site.

Basically they display this to verify that it is not some sort of automated traffic, but a human behind the query.

Here is a link to their official support page explaining it:

Hope this helps! \(^.^)/

That doesn’t look like a legit google page to me. Not there logo, the color scheme looks a little wonky, etc. Someone might be messing with you by redirecting your google search bar… or somethin… Maybe it is a virus but it doesn’t look like real Google to me.

Malware dude. I had this, went through a major cleanup on my box, and it went away, immediately. I suspect it’s something for people to type in captcha’s for spammers.

Got a similar error on windows before. Except that it didn’t just affect the searches. It affected every site I tried to go to. The similarity I’m talking about is how another url automatically gets added behind i.e. http://www…….http://www…... (not that I really know my stuff but I don’t think that’s normal?) Think it was okay after a cleanup.

Oh yeah, since they’re saying that the error could be associated with a robot IP or spam IP, I think it could have to do with your employer’s network (if you’re doing the searches from there).

I’ve never heard of someone bot-spamming a search engine, let alone enough people doing it to warrant wasting time on a page to weed out bots….

But anyway, I use Opera and I’ve never gotten anything like that. If anyone would see an error I’d think Opera users or any other lesser-known browser would.
