I hate to shamelessly post a video like this… but its not stopping me at all.

…Because it…floats by itself?

Kidding. I must say, that is quite a sexy looking device and I’d totally want one too.

Exactly. I don’t think any phone on the market in the US floats… maybe in Japan.

So, do you think that Apple would release a PDA device like this before releasing Leopard?

I’d buy one if it had a sketching feature. Who am I kidding…I’d buy one just to match my PowerBook.

If that is real, I will be making a wee bit of a phone upgrade.

I dont think its faked for the following reasons:
If it was a fake then they would have called it the iPhone which is what the rumor was.
Secondly, it does have the name of the producer who apparently did agree to make a commercial for apple recently.

I’ve never yet peed my pants while watching a commercial, but that video has made me come the closest out of anything I’ve ever seen. I seriously hope it’s real because it just might make me ditch my Treo.

It looks very pretty, but it’s clearly a fake design that needs more fake design work. I have trouble seeing anyone using a double clamshell like that one handed.

Totally fake. There is not way they could fit all that crap onto one phone. Especially the touch screen.

squint and read the blurry text at the start “…the designs presented are purely fictional in nature and do not proport to suggest any current or emerging product…

shame though, lovely idea, wanted a large surface touch screen mobile with very thin edges & profile since seeing a bunch of similar things in futuristic anime.

Dude, this is such an old fake!
Personally, i think the design is stupid.
What about the clickwheel on the backside?
It looks like it will break into pieces after the first day of use.

Looking forward to the REAL Apple phone, though.
Whatever it’ll look like.

Of course this is a fake. You guys are seeing it completely out of context - the guy who created it even released it with an explanation that it was an example advertisement created for his portfolio. It was never claimed to be real. Try and read the fuzzy text at the beginning.

I think this is a pretty nifty looking phone - of course it has its problems. From what I have seen, you guys have expectations of Apple that far exceed (by a huge margin) what you would expect from any other computer or electronic goods manufacturer (granted, as an apple user myself, I know Mac OS X is far superior to Microsoft’s offerings)and Apple will never be able to service all of the little whims, desires and fancies of its fanbase.

Get over it. It will never happen.

Nobody can possibly give a phone a complete, desktop copy of iTunes/FrontRow, with 120GB storage, in flip-phone and non flip-phone varieties at the same time, 12 Megapixel digital camera… etc. The wishlist goes on and on. Some people really need to pull their heads out of the clouds.

On another note, the advertisement is exceptional. The volumetric lighting is incredible, and the whole rendering is downright stunning, short as it is.

For those of you that don’t know, and want to, the song is ‘Waiting Line’, by Zero 7, a downtempo electronic group.

Fake or not (though it’s not in quesion)this is no diffrent then the concept cars they design for car shows and programing blocks. How many of them where nice to dream about but where impractical in design? Ony thing is that a lot of the cars where actually built.

Fake and all, but… that almost matched my sky high expectations for Apple’s design team. Pretty slick.

Of course in the real world I carry a clunky Blackberry for work… *sigh*

Looks cool but I think the double flip would get pretty annoying pretty quickly. When fumbling around to pick up your phone you’d have to open both upper and lower parts and then presumably have to latch them behind (I don’t know of any way to apply torsion to both open and closed position with such device).

Comment by Formori

You wouldn’t have to open both at once, just like a slide-phone now, one side would simply be a little higher that en other. You could flip the “bottom” out for the phone use, and the “top” with the scroll wheel for ipod features.

I think if the right technology comes along (like a 200GB iPod or such nanotech) that this would actually be feesable, Palmpilots and Blackberry work on the same principle right?

BTW, yes you could apply torsion to both sides, by integrating a small spring and lever inside the hinge, so it holds it open/closed in different positions.

And the song is by Zero 7. Damn good electronica!

Eeeew. Would you really want to use a double-clamshell like that? Can you imagine how UNBELIEVABLY awkward that would be to pick up one handed?

I’m damn glad that thing was only speculative…
