The comic is on hold until I fix this problem.
Photoshop was working fine until tonight. Why? Because I need to work on the comic.
[Edit] I’m giving up for the night. Also I don’t think it’s a mac intel issue. I had this same issue on my 17″ Powerbook G4 couple months ago. I don’t remember how I fixed the problem. >.<
Night.

That is usually a memory issue. If the PSD you’re working on has an abnormally large number of layers in it, turn off all but one layer, then save. Shut down Photoshop and reboot. All should be fine. At least that’s what always worked for me.
The file only has one layer.
Oh. Wow. *head asplode* ^_^
Not making light of your situation, just never heard of PS doing that with just one layer. Someone further down already mentioned it, but it could just be a corrupt PSD.
Or it’s reinstall time. -_-;
Sorry to hear your mac went down. (BTW,first time posting). I’v seen the same thing on PC after opening quite a few docutments myself and closing them and/or fliters, or is this happening as soon as you open your photoshop? Just tossin that out there. :-) BTW, even though I’m a big PC fan who has not fallen for the whole thing about how mac is better for graphics, because it’s not. (Apple “catered” to graphics for the longest time but it’s now on equle ground) and a once Mac HATER is more tollerent of Mac’s. (I looked at a iBook) Anyways.. ^_^; Hope the comic gets colored soon.
See, this a problem I’ve had also on intel machines, but never on a mac, at least never on a PPC mac! On the intel(windows machines, that messge would always pop up, but I usually had several open programs on at the same time, cutting and pasting btween them and the Photoshop! I think it might be a problem with Rosetta and certain non-universal apps, but not having worked in full with the new intel machines, I don’t know! I just know it was a nightmare explaining why I couldn’t finish my work in time, and being told to just fix it before the night crew came in!
One thing you realise after using Intel Macs for a while is that, no matter how fast your processor, Rosetta is still quite dodgy. It was only to be an interim measure.
Hey - you should see CS2 on my system. Now that is atrocious.
CURSE YOU Adobe Photoshop! Personally, I think it’s just PMS, computers and programs have feelings too you know :p
If you’re using the MacPro you’re better off back on your PPC Mac as Photoshop still has some problems with Rosetta.
I’m quite sure I see an Eve image back there!
it’s probably your new computer being a pain in the ass. i hate when that kinda stuff happens (one of the reasons i have a 5 year old computer). have you looked online to see if you can get help with it? i mean other than here.
i wonder if my brother knows anything (or anybody) that could help. unfortunatly, he’s at work right now.
Have you tried hitting it really hard?
Also, it could be a fault with the PSD file - try shoving the layer into a new document.
Hit a Mac?! Are you mad man! And hitting a MacBook Pro or Mac Pro is blasphemy… you shall burn… =P
You just have to show it tough love!
Not that this is necessarily related, but I recall a frustrating bug in a version of Paint Shop Pro … if you tried to draw a line and accidently swapped the line and the background colors so that you had a transparent line, it would give a script error and not allow you to edit or save the picture after that point. Oh, how many times I lost work because of it. >.>
No comments on the issue (you might want to check your Photoshop installation) but just wanted to wish you Happy Ramadhan and Happy Fasting!
damn…. thats not cool
oh well, hope you figure it out sometime in the future. Good Luck.
May the Squirrel be with you!
I had the same problem on my G5, Apparently, it was a printer driver thingy. I just had to reinstall my printer and it worked fine afterwards.
Try it, you never know…
Try removing all the preferences and printer settings for photoshop. We used to have a similar problem a lot with some of Adobe’s stuff at work on the G5s.
here’s Adobe’s explanation of the problem plus resolution/s:

Cheers, and keep up the good work!

I went to this page when I had the exact same issue on my MacBook Pro with CS…couldn’t open a single file or anything. I never experienced the problem at home on my wired network, got it every time (for 2 months) I tried to use it at work on the wireless network. I shut down my Internet at work, and the problem completely went away as long as I was offline.
I even tried deleting my preference files and that did nothing. At some point, the problem just vanished…I can use it on my work network while I’m online. Don’t know what happened…I hope Adobe has this stuff fixed for their ‘07 release!
Maybe try repairing permissions & restarting the computer?
I can’t help with this one, but it reminded me of last night’s errors on my side. Photoshop went through an extended bout of telling me it couldn’t save a file because it was already open or in use. Um… yes, if a file is open because I’m doing something to it and would like to save said changes, isn’t that kind of, well, normal operations?
Fortunately, save as still worked, so I just created another file and rebooted. But yes, PS is still a weeeeee bit wacky around the edges sometimes….
Just reinstall it. It`s definetly not a mac thing, since I am using a PC and my photoshop (both 7, which I am using, and my old 6) give me this error a couple of times. And if it doesn`t work after reinstalling…then i`m out of ideas.
If you havent solved it already, i have a tip for you.
A temporary solution that i have used when got that message, is to save on another disk. In my case im saving on a server in my network. After that restart Photoshop, and it should work as intended again.
Good luck mate, cheers.

Printer driver fixed mine. Dunno if that’s the same problem. I’d give it a go.
BUY A PC! Lol, j/k. I used to have that problem on my P4 Prescott all the time, but then i switched to an Athlon 64 X2, and all the problems went away.
“oh my god an error, god give me a sign what to do”
Get a PC
;)
I have no clue about macs, however is there enough space on your scratch discs?
Does this happen everytime you do this action?
You checked your harddrive for errors recently?
Trash your Preferences file. Its usually the culprit 99% of the time.
With Adobe thats the only thing to look thoguh to figure whats wrong. Their vauge at fixing this problems. So hope this one helps Hawk.

I’m not fortunate enough to have a mac (or even a recent edition of Photoshop), but I do get this error all the time with PS6 on my PC. (And just try to find online help for PS6!) I’ve trashed my preferences, and that didn’t do anything. It only seems to work after I turn my computer off for a minute or two, then reboot. (Just restarting for some reason doesn’t seem to work.) Which is good — just a pain — because I can’t find the CD to reinstall it.
Mine did that once. It worked after I reinstalled it.
I think it’s your systems way of keeping us all in suspense for another day or two.
I used to have this problem with CS1 all the time on my G3. A reinstall was what it took to fix it. It got so bad that I started keeping a compressed copy of the Photoshop application around so that when it did happen I could just uncompress and swap the fresh app for the one that wasn’t working. Didn’t need to mess with anything besides the Photoshop app to fix it though.
