Wow. When Ananth and I first started AG back in Feb 2003, I didn’t think we would make it up to number 300 and keep on going. I thought it would be something we would do for a while and drop it. However, we have wonderful readers that supported us, helped us and motivated us to keep on going. So I really want to thank you guys for all the support.

I know we lost a lot of readers since we decided to go story mode. We try to make up for that by creating AG Lite. However, I still get emails telling me we lost it. For some odd reason, some people think comics needs to be funny or it’s not worth reading at all. If there’s a written proof of that, please show me. Oh well. It doesn’t matter how hard we try, we can’t make everyone happy with what we do.

Once again thank you. Oh yeah, just want to point out there will be changes in the AG world…. No, it’s NOT the finger comics….or is it….

One more thing, we have new merchandise at the AG Store. New hawk and eve shirts and a new cast poster.

Some of my favorite comics are storyline with the full spectrum. Humor is part of it sure, but I enjoy the comic so much more since you’ve gone story mode. The character development, the drama, the suspense, the sustained world. It’s all good. Thanks for the comic guys!

Great job with the comic, and congrats on lasting this long! I’ve been reading since around the beginning, and I didn’t mind the switch to story mode at all. I really enjoy the story line and every week can’t wait to read the next comic. Once again, great job and good luck! Hope to maybe see another 300! lol

While I have my gripes about web comics doing the story mode (2-3 pages a week is usiually just too darn slow to keep me interested) I have to say that your guys comic just keeps me coming back cause it’s actually interesting (SHOCK!), something every other story based webcomic seems to have left behind. In addition the AG light really helps with the ohcrapIgottawaitagainbeforesomethingelsehappensandIcanfinallygetsomesatisfaction and I for one am extremely glad you guys did it.

Keep up the awesome work!

I don’t know what anyones problem with the story mode is. I started reading AG during story mode (Issue 276 to be precise) and I liked it enough to go back and read all of the other issues (over a long span of time obviously). Keep up the good work, the great writing, and the fantastic art.

For what it’s worth, I don’t know that I would read AG regularly if you *hadn’t* gone story mode. The one-offs are funny, but really, just about anyone can do funny. Engaging and funny, now that’s an equine of a different hue. I say bring on the changes; so far the changes you’ve made have only made AG better.

I entirely agree with you. It’s nice to see a comic that’s more than just one-shots, but still funny at the same time.

BTW- can’t wait to get that new poster! :)

Agreed. With a bunch of one-shots, there would be no real character development and then Hawk, Jayce, and the rest of the AG crew would’nt be the same great lovable characters that they are today.

I didn’t start reading AG until after you went story, then went back and read the old ones. Even the ones with short arcs were more entertaining than the one-offs. Even now when you have gone totally dark, you still have Hawk for comic relief. A good story and a good joke are equally good things, keep them both up.

I have been hooked on your webcomic for a while now. I loved the comic aspect of it and when you switched to story line I still looked forward to reading your comic… It is the only thing I to look forward to on mondays. As for AG Lite, as stated previously, it helps tide me over until the new comic goes up. I will Keep reading until you actually do the finger comic stuff. Anyone that doesn’t like AppleGeeks because of a story line can go play in traffic for all I care. Keep up the good work.

I completely dig the story mode. Ananth’s stories are engaging (I love anything about Eve, and the Wilder revalations have been nice), and the art has made huge strides since the first story line experiment (The Dark Eve art is some of my favorite on the internet, period).

I’m sorry, anyone who complains about a webcomic having a story needs to go get smacked. You’re doing a marvelous job and really kicking ass with this story. It had it’s humorous moments. (Hawk on RentaZilla? Perfect.) Every now and then, y’all deserve the chance to move in different directions than the comic necessarily has been in the past. You all are freaking awesome, and I’m glad you’ve been making art for the past three years where it’s easy to find and good reads. Keep it up, or expect fiery wrath from the entire community. :)

Personally I love what you’ve been doing. Sure, you’re old stuff which emphasised on humor is still great and the reason I started reading, but you’re storylines are so freaking amazing and well thought out that I’ve got no gripes about the path you’ve taken. If anything, I wish this was a published comic book series that I could buy each month. Its like reading the old YOUNG JUSTICE comic books. You’ve written a fascinating story with beloved character, while at the same time making it fun and humorous. I look forward to the next 300 comics.

I usually don’t post comments anywhere, but I felt the need to add my two cents. I have been reading Applegeeks for.. a very long time. Way before the story mode, and I’ll be honest, when you guys started the story mode, something about it didn’t sit right with me, and I didn’t like it at first. I think you guys really got into a groove and took this comic to town; I love it now and I’m really glad I stuck with you guys. This is quality stuff you guys turn out. Keep it up.

I frickin love Applegeeks and I love going back and watching where the story and art change. If a webcomic didn’t have changes in the art or the way it’s done, it would get pretty stale. Besides, this is your art, and you generously put it out for all of us to enjoy. If someone doesn’t like it, well, they’re not the ones putting in all the hard work. You go with whatever you feel like doing, and I’ll stick around.

AGLite totally gives the humor that we need. I’ve cracked up at work so much to that stuff. Keep up the good work, Hawk! And you too Anath (even though this isn’t your news post xP). Don’t listen to those people who say other wise. You’re both amazing!

Ok, well…for the most part, I’m really happy the way AG has been turning out. The story has gotten better…ALOT!!! ^_^ I disagree with the fact that comics should always be funny. Who ever says they always need to be funny is on drugs. Not all video game, book, tv shows, and music is always funny are they? Real life has always got a mix of its own and not everything goes as planed. And that is what makes this comic so great. So I say good work and keep it up. Can’t wait to see what happens next. :)

I like story mode mainly because it maintains a safe medium between funny bits (like Hawk getting a girl at the beginning of the plot) and the comic-book like serious bits. With either one, the quality of work you guys put out is amazing, considering you update twice a week. It’s what makes Applegeeks… Applegeeks.

AG Lite is ok, but doesn’t do it for me. CAD lost me long ago (no development), whereas I stick to AG and Megatokyo. I think you guys have a unique combo of well written story and art to back it up. All my ten thumbs up :-D

To be entirely honest, I’ve lost interest in a lot of the gag comics I’ve read in the past. Unless there is a story, I’ll probably laugh at it for a bit, and then forget about it the next day.

Story comics keep me interested because I’m constantly wondering what’s gonna happen next, and some of the most memorable scenes are from story comics.

That’s not to say I dont like the humour side, after all, that’s why I came here in the first place! n_n

Anyway, keep up the good work! And good luck for the future! n_n

I started reading when it was “gag-a-strip”. Now the humor is more subtle and I think I prefer it. I LOVE having AGLite though, so I think you’ve done the best there that was possible. Readers are resistant to change - it’s a big step to move from one style to another. I think that the humor in the strip is much nicer now that it is in things like “Mechazilla” - keeps me coming back for more!

I guess this is a popular subject, so here’s my own thoughts. n__n
First of all, it’s both you and Ananth we should be thanking, providing a webcomic that suits a lot of personalities and critics. I guess I read what’s “considered” the big-name webcomics on the web, they’re great, and so is this. I’ve been reading AG for a while, and while I try out new webcomics they don’t live up to what I’m already reading. So I guess you’re doing something right. I’ve taken the changes with an open mind so I am curious for the future. :D Well done.

You know, the same thing happened to Megatokyo when they went to story mode about 3 years ago and a lot of ppl claimed they’ll stopped reading. They want the old one shot humor they were getting 3x a week. Guess what happened to MT? They have 4 books out and a slew of merchandise and the story mode is still great. Even better when it first started. So for all your skeptics and haters out there, forget them. I personally love all of your comics. The funny ones and the serious story mode arcs. Even tho I admit that I miss the Mac/PC jokes on the old comics (I’m a self-proclaimed Mac addict/fanatic), I’m glad that AG Lite’s there to fill in for that missing factor. Thanks Hawk and Annath for producing a great comic. AG Forever!

I don’t read MegaTokyo for the sole reason that every time I’ve tried the site has taken fully five minutes to load, and there’s way too much backlog for me to put up with that. So the MT crossovers go completely over my head. The story is a bit obscure, especially recently - no one I talked to knew who Frost was until about a month ago, yet he seems to be an old friend of Hawk’s…
It’s interesting to be sure, and the vision of the comic has definitely changed (which is the best part about webcomics - they’re allowed to evolve like that). You’ve got the opportunity for some much darker artwork. But personally, I think both the art and the writing have equally lost that “wow” factor. Half a comic ago you did the Eve unveil, which had my friends and I just staring at our screens going “whoa.” It was dramatic, she was gorgeous, and I think officially marked the beginning of the story phase of AG.
Call me a magpie, but I suppose for issue 300 I was expecting something a little… shinier. ^_^ I’m not going to stop reading in retaliation - remember, I love the strip - this is just a critique.

It is like having dinner and dessert. :D There is plenty of humor to be had, but letting some things simmer till the boiling point (only possible in story mode) really improves the level of humor.
