Wow. When Ananth and I first started AG back in Feb 2003, I didn’t think we would make it up to number 300 and keep on going. I thought it would be something we would do for a while and drop it. However, we have wonderful readers that supported us, helped us and motivated us to keep on going. So I really want to thank you guys for all the support.
I know we lost a lot of readers since we decided to go story mode. We try to make up for that by creating AG Lite. However, I still get emails telling me we lost it. For some odd reason, some people think comics needs to be funny or it’s not worth reading at all. If there’s a written proof of that, please show me. Oh well. It doesn’t matter how hard we try, we can’t make everyone happy with what we do.
Once again thank you. Oh yeah, just want to point out there will be changes in the AG world…. No, it’s NOT the finger comics….or is it….
One more thing, we have new merchandise at the AG Store. New hawk and eve shirts and a new cast poster.

I dunno man i LOVE story mode myself. You guy please,PLEASE keep up the outstanding work :)
AG Lite is Hilarious though LOL I dig it too
Some of my favorite comics are storyline with the full spectrum. Humor is part of it sure, but I enjoy the comic so much more since you’ve gone story mode. The character development, the drama, the suspense, the sustained world. It’s all good. Thanks for the comic guys!
Great job with the comic, and congrats on lasting this long! I’ve been reading since around the beginning, and I didn’t mind the switch to story mode at all. I really enjoy the story line and every week can’t wait to read the next comic. Once again, great job and good luck! Hope to maybe see another 300! lol
I love the comic-book layout. With that and AG Lite, its probably why im still reading. The story is exciting and the art is amazing. Keep up the great work!
While I have my gripes about web comics doing the story mode (2-3 pages a week is usiually just too darn slow to keep me interested) I have to say that your guys comic just keeps me coming back cause it’s actually interesting (SHOCK!), something every other story based webcomic seems to have left behind. In addition the AG light really helps with the ohcrapIgottawaitagainbeforesomethingelsehappensandIcanfinallygetsomesatisfaction and I for one am extremely glad you guys did it.
Keep up the awesome work!
I don’t know what anyones problem with the story mode is. I started reading AG during story mode (Issue 276 to be precise) and I liked it enough to go back and read all of the other issues (over a long span of time obviously). Keep up the good work, the great writing, and the fantastic art.
For what it’s worth, I don’t know that I would read AG regularly if you *hadn’t* gone story mode. The one-offs are funny, but really, just about anyone can do funny. Engaging and funny, now that’s an equine of a different hue. I say bring on the changes; so far the changes you’ve made have only made AG better.
I entirely agree with you. It’s nice to see a comic that’s more than just one-shots, but still funny at the same time.
BTW- can’t wait to get that new poster! :)
Agreed. With a bunch of one-shots, there would be no real character development and then Hawk, Jayce, and the rest of the AG crew would’nt be the same great lovable characters that they are today.
I didn’t start reading AG until after you went story, then went back and read the old ones. Even the ones with short arcs were more entertaining than the one-offs. Even now when you have gone totally dark, you still have Hawk for comic relief. A good story and a good joke are equally good things, keep them both up.
I have been hooked on your webcomic for a while now. I loved the comic aspect of it and when you switched to story line I still looked forward to reading your comic… It is the only thing I to look forward to on mondays. As for AG Lite, as stated previously, it helps tide me over until the new comic goes up. I will Keep reading until you actually do the finger comic stuff. Anyone that doesn’t like AppleGeeks because of a story line can go play in traffic for all I care. Keep up the good work.
storyline = good. i was introduced to your comic (and mac hall) a while back, while you were still doing just the jokes, it didn’t catch my interest to be honest. i just came back, doing housecleaning on my bookmarks. and i’m hooked. keep up the awesome art. keep up the great writing.
I’m a big fan of the story mode. It’s cleverly written and looks awesome. I think it gives Hawk a chance to really show off his artistic skills.
I have to agree with the group- Story mode has only improved AG. Love the writing, love the art, love the MT crossovers… Keep it up guys. Looking forward to the next 300.
bah.. your comic is awesome with the new format. Love the AG-Lite - keep up the good work.
And your artwork is spectacular.
So a few doesn’t like it. Doesn’t mean the rest of the world hates it too. Keep up the excellent work! Some people actually appreciate the art behind the comic too.
I completely dig the story mode. Ananth’s stories are engaging (I love anything about Eve, and the Wilder revalations have been nice), and the art has made huge strides since the first story line experiment (The Dark Eve art is some of my favorite on the internet, period).
Keep it up guys
Just wanted to add my support of the comic - I know I’d be disappointed if you guys stopped.
I’m sorry, anyone who complains about a webcomic having a story needs to go get smacked. You’re doing a marvelous job and really kicking ass with this story. It had it’s humorous moments. (Hawk on RentaZilla? Perfect.) Every now and then, y’all deserve the chance to move in different directions than the comic necessarily has been in the past. You all are freaking awesome, and I’m glad you’ve been making art for the past three years where it’s easy to find and good reads. Keep it up, or expect fiery wrath from the entire community. :)
Story lines + AG Lite is the perfect (hyper) combo (finish). Keep up the good work!
Personally I love what you’ve been doing. Sure, you’re old stuff which emphasised on humor is still great and the reason I started reading, but you’re storylines are so freaking amazing and well thought out that I’ve got no gripes about the path you’ve taken. If anything, I wish this was a published comic book series that I could buy each month. Its like reading the old YOUNG JUSTICE comic books. You’ve written a fascinating story with beloved character, while at the same time making it fun and humorous. I look forward to the next 300 comics.
Congrats on the 300th! I’m really proud of you guys - you’ve come a long way and I wish you well on future endeavours.
And the finger comics too.
I usually don’t post comments anywhere, but I felt the need to add my two cents. I have been reading Applegeeks for.. a very long time. Way before the story mode, and I’ll be honest, when you guys started the story mode, something about it didn’t sit right with me, and I didn’t like it at first. I think you guys really got into a groove and took this comic to town; I love it now and I’m really glad I stuck with you guys. This is quality stuff you guys turn out. Keep it up.
I frickin love Applegeeks and I love going back and watching where the story and art change. If a webcomic didn’t have changes in the art or the way it’s done, it would get pretty stale. Besides, this is your art, and you generously put it out for all of us to enjoy. If someone doesn’t like it, well, they’re not the ones putting in all the hard work. You go with whatever you feel like doing, and I’ll stick around.
I love your guys’ story mode. I’m totally in to it and want to know what’s going to happen next. Sure the beginning was funny, but its nice to have a plot to go along with all the amazing artwork. AGLite totally gives the humor that we need. I’ve cracked up at work so much to that stuff. Keep up the good work, Hawk! And you too Anath (even though this isn’t your news post xP). Don’t listen to those people who say other wise. You’re both amazing!
~Jo
Big fan of both modes, best thing I can think for you guys to do is keep doing what you enjoy. Quality tends to stay high when you like what you are doing.
Keep up the good work. I find your comics to be more interesting then any store boughten comic anyways, and it’s free. :) Artwork is better too. Good Luck.
Ok, well…for the most part, I’m really happy the way AG has been turning out. The story has gotten better…ALOT!!! ^_^ I disagree with the fact that comics should always be funny. Who ever says they always need to be funny is on drugs. Not all video game, book, tv shows, and music is always funny are they? Real life has always got a mix of its own and not everything goes as planed. And that is what makes this comic so great. So I say good work and keep it up. Can’t wait to see what happens next. :)
I like story mode mainly because it maintains a safe medium between funny bits (like Hawk getting a girl at the beginning of the plot) and the comic-book like serious bits. With either one, the quality of work you guys put out is amazing, considering you update twice a week. It’s what makes Applegeeks… Applegeeks.
Personally i like how the webcomic is more like a “comic” and less like a comic strip
I’d like to join the congratulatory choir: Well Done! I’d also like to express my view on story arcs vs the old one-story-per-day routine: I only keep reading because of the story. AG Lite is ok, but doesn’t do it for me. CAD lost me long ago (no development), whereas I stick to AG and Megatokyo. I think you guys have a unique combo of well written story and art to back it up. All my ten thumbs up :-D
To be entirely honest, I’ve lost interest in a lot of the gag comics I’ve read in the past. Unless there is a story, I’ll probably laugh at it for a bit, and then forget about it the next day.
Story comics keep me interested because I’m constantly wondering what’s gonna happen next, and some of the most memorable scenes are from story comics.
That’s not to say I dont like the humour side, after all, that’s why I came here in the first place! n_n
Anyway, keep up the good work! And good luck for the future! n_n
I started reading when it was “gag-a-strip”. Now the humor is more subtle and I think I prefer it. I LOVE having AGLite though, so I think you’ve done the best there that was possible. Readers are resistant to change - it’s a big step to move from one style to another. I think that the humor in the strip is much nicer now that it is in things like “Mechazilla” - keeps me coming back for more!
A big congratulations on reaching the big 300! I hope you guys will stay and make another 300. ;-) I have to say I love both AG, and AGlite. AG for the great artwork, and deepening story line; AGlite for its classic humour. And we get this, Four times per week, for Free!! What more could I ask for?
well, whatever flak you may be getting I say you guys are doing stuff right. You guys still have the slightly weird humor I like and adding story has added greater depth to the characters as well as giving us Eve. Keep up the good work guys and congrats on the big 300.
Whats this about people saying comics have to be funny one liners? can we sic Eve on them now? Because they seem to not understand the awesomeosity of a good story
Gripes about this would be ridiculous…both the writing and the artistic stylings of AG have gotten only better as time has progressed. As someone who’s been reading since day 1, I can definitely tell you to just keep going. Any readership you might lose just because you’ve “stepped up” both the written and visual side of the ‘geeks wouldn’t TRULY be a loss. The rest of us will just continue to cheer you on. I’m lovin’ this!
I realize I may be among the minority, but I also like the transition into a story format. You guys are very creative, with interesting writing and excellent artistic style. Keep up the good work!
love the comic! you guys are on my top 5 with pa, megatokyo, pvp, and dilbert.
you guys coming to PAX this weekend?
Dude…. so what if you went Story mode? Actually, I like the fact that the story has gotten a stable plot from the change, and makes a little more sense (although it doesn’t need to).
The point is, you’re the writers/artists, and this is your comic. You should be free to do whatever you wish to your creation.
I love the comic, and I love the storyline. Keep up the awesome work!!
Happy 300th!
Humor, story arcs, whatever. I dig this comic and always will. You guys truly amaze me. I’m in awe. So thank YOU for keeping us entertained and most of all: inspired. :)
Happy 300th and many more.
weeh? this is the best i’ve read, beside megatokyo. with applegeek and megatokyo, it makes me wonder if there is a movie for each.
Happy 300th and hope to see more.
What I like is being able to go through the comics since day 1 and see how much the artwork and writing has evolved. You’ve both put a lot in AG and it shows. Keep up the good work!
Me likey story.
Now, first time commenter, since I only found the site a week ago *finished reading ‘em all in three days* ^^ … But yeah, I personally adore comics all the more for a story line, especially the ones where Eve went ballistic =)
And Hawk and the Apple Store…*Giggles maniacally* The bubble is awesome *nod nod* and and and…Yeah, the point is, this comic kicks ass, and I look forward to obsessing over it in the future, ’specially since it’s fully colored
Ya know, for every mad reader you get because of no story, theres probably 100+ readers who love it. Personally, i love the story, and i REALLY love how you guys manage to get some humor inside the story mode. I’m a long time reader, love the comic story mode or not! keep up the good work
er, i mean or every mad reader you get because of the story
oops :D
I love the comic, the storyline is almost better than the others, makes me keep coming back
keep up the awesome work with AG and AG Lite!!
I don’t mind the story aspect of the comic. It was good then, it’s good now, and the art is just getting better. I just ask one thing of you… Please, do not go the route of Polymer City Chronicles, and require reading a 15 page wiki to be able to make sense of anything. Thank you,
iK
Heyas… just wanted to add my 2 cents’ worth… I love both the “story” mode and “joke” mode… and some of my favorite things have both. :)
im glad everysingle comic isnt funny…or even color…black and white can do something good…even if it is because you guys had a ton on your hands…i know what that is like first hand…
keep it up…
I guess this is a popular subject, so here’s my own thoughts. n__n
First of all, it’s both you and Ananth we should be thanking, providing a webcomic that suits a lot of personalities and critics. I guess I read what’s “considered” the big-name webcomics on the web, they’re great, and so is this. I’ve been reading AG for a while, and while I try out new webcomics they don’t live up to what I’m already reading. So I guess you’re doing something right. I’ve taken the changes with an open mind so I am curious for the future. :D Well done.
You know, the same thing happened to Megatokyo when they went to story mode about 3 years ago and a lot of ppl claimed they’ll stopped reading. They want the old one shot humor they were getting 3x a week. Guess what happened to MT? They have 4 books out and a slew of merchandise and the story mode is still great. Even better when it first started. So for all your skeptics and haters out there, forget them. I personally love all of your comics. The funny ones and the serious story mode arcs. Even tho I admit that I miss the Mac/PC jokes on the old comics (I’m a self-proclaimed Mac addict/fanatic), I’m glad that AG Lite’s there to fill in for that missing factor. Thanks Hawk and Annath for producing a great comic. AG Forever!
I don’t read MegaTokyo for the sole reason that every time I’ve tried the site has taken fully five minutes to load, and there’s way too much backlog for me to put up with that. So the MT crossovers go completely over my head. The story is a bit obscure, especially recently - no one I talked to knew who Frost was until about a month ago, yet he seems to be an old friend of Hawk’s…
It’s interesting to be sure, and the vision of the comic has definitely changed (which is the best part about webcomics - they’re allowed to evolve like that). You’ve got the opportunity for some much darker artwork. But personally, I think both the art and the writing have equally lost that “wow” factor. Half a comic ago you did the Eve unveil, which had my friends and I just staring at our screens going “whoa.” It was dramatic, she was gorgeous, and I think officially marked the beginning of the story phase of AG.
Call me a magpie, but I suppose for issue 300 I was expecting something a little… shinier. ^_^ I’m not going to stop reading in retaliation - remember, I love the strip - this is just a critique.
You guys hooked me back when I first found the comic with the comedy and the amazing art. It was a laugh a minute flipping through the archive, and I’ve stuck with it.
The transition to story mode wasn’t an abrupt one nor and unwelcome one. I really like it, and the AGlite is great to go back for the zany comed of back-in-the-day.
Thanks for puttin’ these out for so long, and good luck keepin’ it up.
I love Applegeeks, and I love the comic.
Thanks!
i like story mode, but i also liked the random comics that used to show. i almost lost interest in the comic when it switched gears, not because i didnt like the change, it just didnt update enough for me. but with the addition of the lite comics, ive found myself coming back to AG more often
Considering I got here from Megatokyo, another webcomic in story mode … well obviously I already like story mode. In fact, I prefer it. AG Lite is definitely a fantastic addition. It is like having dinner and dessert. :D There is plenty of humor to be had, but letting some things simmer till the boiling point (only possible in story mode) really improves the level of humor.
Congrats on 300 and looking forward to more.
i love AG, story and lite. I think the art in lite is a great contrast to the art in the main comic. The cutest thing i have ever seen is eve in panel one of the ag lite “how rude”. seriously in love with ag. Also if you ever doubt your fanbase, just look at the picture of the world with all the readers.
Yeah, I loved that strip too. It’s so cute! I want to make it into a bookmark and laminate it…
*is obsessed with bookmarks* Not that I can keep them for long but…
awww…~~
Hey Hawk! I have been around for a while now and I have seen you go from “Quick Banter” to “Story” mode and I love it even more. I feel at a loss when I don’t get a chance to check the site and continue reading the story. I love story comics so much I will go though the archives to catch up (I did it to MegaTokyo, went from #1 to #800 to catch up). Keep up the great work Hawk. I hate that I don’t show off your comic anymore on my site, wish I could get back to that.
Great work to Ananth too on the story line.
Hey guys just wanted to say that I love the way you run the comic. I think that developing the characters makes the funny parts even better. And aside from that the characters themselves are interesting enough that I would read the comic just for the story itself.
YO I LOVE WEB COMICS WITH STORY KEEP IT GOING
I started reading AppleGeeks because I’m an avid Apple user (like most on here =P), and I just wanted to say that I love the fact that you guys went “story.” Balancing it with AG Lite is a perfect fit! I read other comics for the one-shot funny laughs, but AppleGeeks keeps me wishing the Mondays and Thursdays would come faster. ^_^ Keep it up!
Mac love!
Congratulations on the 300th strip! I’ve been reading for ages and have to say that I love both the gag-a-strip comics and the story arc ones. AG lite is a really good way to keep both up and running at the same time so keep up the good work!
Whether you went Story Mode or not, AppleGeeks is still awesome. MegaTokyo did it, and they lost a few fans too, but Fred has done over 800 pages. I only started reading recently, and i started from the begining, but the begining was just as great. We’ve got AG lite anyway! Congrats on the 300th strip!
First, congratulations to you and Ananth making it your 300th strip. That’s a feat worth celebrating, and your readers are celebrating with you guys! :) Second, do what you and Ananth feel it’s right for the series…that’s what make Applegeeks unique. It’s not afraid to test different genre of writing and artwork. You both have that kind of talent to shift and make transitions. So continue on doing what you guys do, the real readers and fans are here to see more!
Hi! Very nice site! Thanks you very much! KdmgoJgGHMLqx
