TheThreadlesssale ended today.

Wanted to point outthis article. It speaks for itself. But for the record, yes, I do think it’s fucked up.

I posted an update over at my writing blog.

Saw Snakes on a Plane. Once the action gets going, it’s full-throttle, over the top all the way till the end.

Finally, I wanted to drop a link to Wapsi Square. I never really got a chance to look at it before, but I started reading it earlier this weekend, and didn’t stop till I’d read through to the end of the archive. It’s a lot of fun, the art develops visibly from beginning to current, and I adore the current style.

Yeah, I’m from England and I read that article the other day.
Pretty much, all that this crackpot government over here is doing is scaring everybody sh*tless from this terror thing…making everybody paranoid. The plane companies are trying to scam as many people and make money off of them, and Muslim, Middle-Eastern and Asian communities are just recieving more and more prejudice. I know that there are terrorists out there, but kicking up such a fuss with only two men on the plane seems a little out of hand, don’t you think? The whole thing at the moment over here is waaay too overrated, and I think we should calm down and try to handle the situation a little bit more rationally. In conclusion I do agree. It *is* fucked up.

Personally if i wanted to terrorize the air now that this is happening i would just find as many creepy looking obviously muslim people to fly around and look suspicious. its much easier than actually blowing up airplanes.

seems the clever way of doing it to me.

same effect, and has the added bonus of keeping your people as a “reusable resource”

A point said by my sister (age 12) is that a terror panic is almost as good for the terrorists as an actual attack. I could walk up the street, use a public phone box, and shut down a major airport.

Right now, there is still much increased security at airports. Would anyone be trying to do something like a bombing so soon after an alert?

Seems like the UK isn’t the only country guilty of the “Knee Jerk” reaction. Any government which is involved in the “War against Terrorism” feeds enough info to the general populace to create this sort of situation.

This is beyond screwed up. What’s even sadder than the passengers reactions is the fact that the airline obliged them and removed two men simply because of their appearance. I live in a very relegiously conservative area myself, and I’ve experienced things similar to this, if not quite on this absurd level. Being a goth in the bible belt is not a great way to be accepted, although it is fun to go to church all goth’ed out (yes, I do attend church)

Anath — I understand your reaction to the events in the article and I wholeheartedly agree.
Due to lack of a visible Muslim population where I live (Texas) I was wondering if you had any ideas for the rest of us that we could do to show solidarity with our fellow Americans? No one should be judged on the basis of their skin or presumed heritage. I know the Muslim community has taken a strong stance condemning the so-called “jihadists” and extremeists. I wish there was some way that I could show my understanding and acknowledgement of that. Ideas?

Ananth man, you managed to find an article from the UK’s most crackpot newspaper. The Daily Mail is as bad as the National Enquirer, except the Daily Mail promotes racism, facism, etc and attempts to cause the most undue worry to its readers.

It famously supported the Nazi Party and still today is against anything or one that is white middle classed and English.

It is a horrible rag.

You’d be better off, for content, reading the English tabloids than that.

For reference I personally read the Daily Telegraph, but in general all the British broadsheets (The Independent, The Guardian and even The Times) are fairly readable. If you want I can send you a selection of rags from the same day so you can see the difference in the way they report, just drop me an e-mail and I’m more than happy to.

Sorry for the rant, but I kinda wanted to put that article into context, and I’m here regularly enough to know you’re well read.

Whoops, sorry that was supposed to read “against anything or one that is not white middle classed and English.”

Dude I hate to say this, but under “crackpot” newspaper I htink you should list the following: The Sun (the most prejudiced and two-faced papaer on the planet, I believe), The Star and The Sport.
The Daily Mail is a cross between a tabloid and a broadsheet. It uses a tone which all can understand, yet comments on things that you would find in more sophisticated newspapers (say, The Guardian, The Independent and The Times). The Daily Mail is a borderline paper…not a bullshitting one.

I am from a middle to working class family, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that I promote fascism and racism, does it (as you can probably see from my previous comments)? True my father reads that paper, I myself read the Independent, but I wouldn’t say that the Mail is *that* bad, certainly not bad enough to call it a “rag”.
