I’m probably headed up to New York for Springbreak. Something about that city always draws mein - waste a day in Maryland, and it feels like aday wasted, but waste a day in New York, and youstill feel like you’ve seen a lot.

There’s so much stuff to do there! I visitedcomics stores, clothing stores, comics stores …comics stores … no, seriously though: it’s acool town. I plan to go a little further afield, this time around.

My last experience in NY was mostly pleasant …this isn’t a broad generalization I want to make, but last time (over winter break) it seemed likegirls could sniff out that I was single instantly.I talked to a few, but honestly, I was way too shyto go past first conversations. I say mostlypleasant, though, because I have this one story…

I did sort of a day by day travel log while I wasin NY - some of you might remember - and in one ofthem, I mentioned that I was going to the Museumof Modern Art. (MOMA) I was wandering around whilemy Mom was in another part of the building, andthis girl tugged my sleeve and said she recognizedme from Applegeeks. That was cool, so I talked toher for a while, and then I went upstairs. And raninto her again. And again. And again. And …whoaaa, creeped out. We left and went to a pretzelstand, and I saw her around the corner … andthen again, in the station when I was getting intothe subway. I tactfully didn’t mention this to mydear mother, but … OMG STALKED I had chalked itup to coincidence, and then I came back andrelated the story to some friends, and theypointed out that I had posted about the museum inmy rant the day prior. Creepout scales were offthe charts! And that is my not-as-pleasant,but-still-entertaining story about NY.

Anyway, back to work. I was just telling Hawk onAIM:

Ananth: test tomorrow
Ananth: midterm portfolio due tomorrow
Ananth: thursday is study day
Ananth: friday is french exam

So I’m going to go do that, somehow! And I’m stillgoing to write up a script for Thursday. See howmuch I love you guys?

“Aspyr Media Inc. on Monday announced that it’s shipping Doom 3 for the Macintosh. The company expects Doom 3 for Mac to hit store shelves no later than March 19, 2005.”

I would go and buy it, but I doubt my machine can handle it. :(

Will somebody donate a G5?

If you’re into themes for your computer and running OS X, I would recommend Unsanity’s Shape Shifter. I never used it, but I have seen my brother use it on his machine a few times.

A while back, I saw someone make a Windows XP theme for OS X. I’m not even going to bother to look for that, but whoever made that theme, I’m going to kick his ass.

Some of you were asking me about my technique for doing the robot story in Painter. It’s pretty simple really.

I start with a black canvas and I use white to draw everything. The only tool I use is the scratch tool, which is found under the pen section. Most of the time, I use white to block in the shape of the character or whatever I need to draw in. Then I go back and forth with black/white to define the drawing even more. After I’m done drawing in Painter. I export the art as a PSD (Photoshop) file and paint in the grayscale. I could do that in Painter, but I like Photoshop more.

Quick note on the comic first: This is a game that only ever got played once, because it’s actually not very nice to grocery people at all! I mentioned on Hawkstudios that one night a little while ago, I ran into someone from my elementary school at the Superfresh. She mostly invented the game, and the playing was short-lived because I don’t think anyone really wants the wrath of store people upon them, but during the duration, Monica definitely managed to peg Charles in the head with a box of noodles, from over the aisle shelf. Archer and I came around the corner just in time to see it strike him in the side of the head. That’s skills! Also, we here at Applegeeks really have to say that we can’t endorse people actually playing this game. So that’s that!

On a side note, the job hunt has begun … I had planned to write quite a bit more on the subject, but it’s 3 AM and I’d better leave it for another post.

Oh, the Robot project is coming along nicely. We’ve got four pages squared away, lettering and all. We’re 50% there … if you are curious about the Disposable Parts Anthology in which it will be appearing, you can check out the site here. You can also preorder the book, and sample pages of other work are available here.
