YET ANOTHER UPDATE: One of those “other” webcomicson the panel that I spoke of earlier is FragileGravity - that’s what I get for walking onto thepanel late and missing the introductions. I’m abit embarrassed, as we are listed in one of therants, and they even went to the trouble ofspelling my name right (it’s not as easy as youwould think - let’s just say I’ve been a man ofmany names over the years). So check them out! I’mgoing to be reading through the archives myself.
New Update:
First and foremost, we got to meet Vaz and his friend Doc from Underpower. Simply put, these are two of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Vaz was slamming out sketches for literally everyone who came by and asked for one, and Doc went and got us food not once but /twice/ (we’re talking about food for the whole row of comics people - that’s about ten individuals). We really appreciated that, so thanks Doc! Oh, and Vaz is an amazing artist. AMAZING. One day I’ll master anatomy as he has, and then I’ll make a comic called UnderpowerED, and then Hawk and I can call ourselves the ripoff of TWO comics.
We also saw Ian, Matt, and Jess from Mac Hall! I got toexchange a few words with Ian, and I chatted withJess for a bit, but I have yet to have aconversation with Matt. Well, one day. Oh, he wasdressed as Spike for part of the con - that waspretty sweet.
Dave of ParadoxLost was there, of course - Dave is the onewho always goes way above and beyond to organizethese things between the webcomics people - Ithink Vaz described him as the “webpanel’s dad”.Nami of SeraphicBlue was there as well - she spent a lot oftime calling me “crackah”, and then she convincedme to call Emily “wheatthin” when she arrived onSaturday. I forgot, though! Sorry Nami!
Fred had hisown panel on Friday; he joined us on the webcomicspanel on Saturday. Someone from guest servicesdropped a Coke into his hands during the panel -he passed it to Matt, who contemplated selling theCoke on E-bay.
We also got to meet Rob Balder of PartiallyClips, which was nice. He’s very enthusiasticabout the webcomics community, and everyone noddedin agreement every time he brought it up duringthe panel. We also got to playtest a new card gamecalled “Get Nifty”, which is based on Pete Abram’sSluggyFreelance, which I think is one of the longestrunning webcomics on the web at the moment. Thatactually was a lot of fun, so if you’re into cardgames, then check it out when the time comes.
The panel itself … it was the first panel Hawkand I have been on, and it was pretty fun, thougha bit crowded. There were a couple of other comicsthere besides the ones I mentioned, including DominicDeegan and Ctrl AltDel. The artist/writer of Ctrl Alt Del isnamed Tim Buckley, and I was pretty impressed withhim - he was articulate and enthusiastic, and saidsome very interesting things. As far as I canremember, there weren’t any silent moments, so ourfirst panel was pretty painless. Oh, except -
I just wanted to make a public apology for walkingonto the panel late. We were obviously invited todo it, so walking in after it started wasn’treally okay. Sorry again.
I think that’s all I can think of, off the top ofmy head. More to come, if I can remember it.
Oh, last thing before I go! Hawk is sick! He’ll probably not post too much since he’ll be spending his free time in bed. In any event, let’s all hope he gets better soon, hey? ^_^
Update: Like Hawk says, we’re pretty burnt out. I actually came back from Katsu a little earlier than Hawk in hopes of getting the script done by the time he arrived home. Instead, I arrived home to something of a disaster, so I spent the day running around trying to make things happen in the right way.
Back from Katsu. Details later in the day.
