My brother (who brings me the most interesting links I know ever get) dropped me this one. Summary: In the late 1950s, the government did experiments involving LSD. In this case, they gave an artist doses at intervals, and let him draw a portrait of the man administering the doses. They also jotted down some of the things he said. There’s 9 drawings altogether, and manohman, it’s wierd.

Rumor at my school was that a teacher in my county was an unwilling participant in some of these experiments. In the small town where he grew up, they decided to use PCP instead of the normal painkillers they gave to patients at the dentist’s office. Thing is, they didn’t ask or tell the patients about this little experiment. As a result, he spent his years as a teenager and a young adult wandering the streets and living out of his truck, because he was haunted by wierd visions and hallucinations. At some point he finally sought help and cleaned up his act, and now he’s a teacher! And a good one … I heard from many people that he connected with students really well. Just that sometimes, he’d be scratching away at the board with chalk, and then he’d be staring off into space …

While working on the Movable Type archiving system, I realize it’s not dynamic. So I did some research on the web and found Smarty Template Engine.

Installing it was very easy, just took about 2 minutes. Now the hard part, actually learning how to use this. Anybody out there familiar with Smarty?

Discuss it here…

Just wanted to drop a link to a webcomic I ran across while wandering the internet …

Evolution 2023

These guys are doing something super-ambitious – they’re telling an ongoing, serious story. What I’ve seen so far has a real X-Files – Darkminds sort of flavor to it. Anyway, I’m curious to see what happens. Check them out!

I started working on my personal website again (on and off kind of deal). This time I installed Movable Type, which is a really good blog system. My only problem with it, it’s not in php.

There’s this article that Hawk linked me to, that says some pretty interesting things. They are things, incidentally, that many of us who have been reading comics (not just Batman and Superman, but also things like Road to Perdition, Ghost World and The Sandman), have been thinking for a long time. Comics are easy to move to film. It /makes sense/. The harder movies are Spiderman and Batman – where you need the CG to make things look as convincing (read: not cheesy) as possible. But other works, which are crime stories, or stories of growing up – the visuals are there. The content is there. Some of them are just begging to be made into movies. There’s a graphic novel by Craig Thompson called Blankets which has sold very well in comicbook stores and regular book stores, and would probably move to film very easily. There’s a wealth of material to tap, and it looks like Hollywood is tapping it.

Yeah, I’m not actually complaining about anything.
